Manchester United are stepping up their preparations for Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool.

It is the only trophy the Red Devils can now win this season, but they face an incredibly tough task against the Premier League leaders. Heading into the game, boss Erik ten Hag is dealing with the bombshell that coach Benni McCarthy may look to leave his role.

The Dutchman has already seen assistant Eric Ramsay depart for pastures new this season, with McCarthy also ready to explore becoming a manager in his own right. Sunday's clash will be United's final match before the international break.

And in a surprise move, Argentina have opted to call Lisandro Martinez into their squad, despite his injury issues. Here, Mirror Football rounds up the latest Manchester United news.

Ten Hag handed coaching blow

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has been dealt a fresh blow after assistant coach Benni McCarthy admitted he is considering his future. Ten Hag has already recently seen first-team coach Eric Ramsay leave United for an opportunity in the MLS.

And now McCarthy, who Ten Hag appointed when he first arrived is now hoping to follow in Ramsay's footsteps. The South African has revealed his future is up in the air as he looks to pursue an opportunity in management.

He told YOU Magazine "With the knowledge I’ve gained – I want to take that and eventually become a manager. Because once you’ve sat in the hot seat at a club and you’ve experienced the adrenaline of decision-making and leading, you want to experience that again one day.”

Carragher hammers Glazers

Jamie Carragher has hammered the Glazers for neglecting United during their ownership. He hit out at the state of Old Trafford, branding them negligent for failing to invest in the Red Devils.

“I think the Glazers have been negligent in the past 10 years in not appointing the right people. My biggest thing is the stadium and regeneration. Letting the stadium go and not touching the regeneration – those two things are just negligent," he told The Overlap Fan Debate.

“You can get the team wrong, sign the wrong players, lose football matches – I don’t have a problem with that. You can’t not have the best stadium with the money coming in and you can’t not have a CEO and sporting director that understand football clubs.”

Martinez decision made

Argentina have called up Lisandro Martinez for their March internationals against El Salvador and Costa Rica. Martinez is still recovering from a knee injury that has kept him out since the clash with West Ham in February.

But he is now expected to complete his rehabilitation with his national team during the March break. It has been a disappointing season for the centre-back, with injuries severly disrupting his campaign.

Martinez was previously ruled out for four months with a foot problem, before returning in January. While the news of his return is a boost, it comes as a surprise, with the defender having been scheduled to be sidelined until the end of March.
