The final days and weeks Kate Garraway spent with her sick husband Derek Draper will be shown in an emotional documentary later this month.

The film, called Kate Garraway: Derek’s Story has been put into the ITV schedules and is set to air on March 26. It is understood to document both Derek's final year and be a tribute to his life. More details are expected to be announced very soon, but an ITV insider described the film as "very moving".

Derek died at the start of January with TV host Kate holding his hand "throughout the last long hours" in hospital. He contracted covid in March 2020 and suffered multiple organ failure at the time, spending 13 months in hospital.

Previously his fight against illness has been documented in two award-winning films made by Flicker Productions called Finding Derek and Caring for Derek. This film will be the third and final one. Kate and Derek's two children Darcy, 18, and son Billy, 14, may also feature as they have been in previous films.

Speaking in February on TV, Kate said she still felt "numb" from the death of her husband. On Good Morning Britain, Kate said: “We are not equipped for loss. No one is equipped for it. Nobody wants to be able to face it but we are all going to come against it at some point in our lives. I am also trying to help my children and one of the things they have said is that people don’t know what to say to them. They want to help their friends and other people feel comfortable to still have a relationship with them.”

Kate returned to work on Thursday after taking a leave of absence following her husband Derek's death on January 3 aged 56. During the show, Garraway said it was "lovely" to be back at the desk alongside co-host Ben Shephard but admitted feeling "wobbly". His funeral service was held at the Church of St Mary The Virgin in Primrose Hill, north London. It was attended by figures including former prime minister Sir Tony Blair, musician Sir Elton John and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer.
