BBC Hairy Bikers fans sob after bittersweet final episode with late Dave Myers
The Hairy Bikers viewers were left devastated on Tuesday as the latest episode ended with a tribute to late Dave Myers.
The heartbreaking episode saw late Dave speak about his optimism and hope before his sad death. The TV chef sadly passed away last month at the age of 66 following a brave battle against cancer.
His death came in the midst of the BBC airing the latest series about his travels around the UK with his co-star Si King, 57. The pair had travelled around parts of the West of the UK for their show The Hairy Bikers Go West. Their travels took them to major cities including Manchester and Newport - while the latest episode saw them ride to Bristol. The pair were delighted by the culinary delights they uncovered in the city - which has historic links to trade routes brining a range of flavours to the UK.
As the episode came to a close on Tuesday, viewers were left sobbing as Dave gushed about the memories he and Si had created together making the show. He ended the episode by opening up about his hopes for the future and for the UK food scene.
“It’s the most wonderful snapshot of the West Country. This part, you know? We started off in Newport. I didn’t know that Newport was a foodie destination. Of course, we get into Bristol, and then the world just opens, you know, there’s memories here, a lot of memories for both of us," Dave said. “But what’s lovely is the optimism of looking forward, and certainly on the food front. It’s veery, very exciting and very optimistic. We’ve got the best of the past and the best of the future.”
Hairy Bikers star Si King shares news as fans left gutted by show updateThe bittersweet episode included a tribute card in honour of the star. The credits rolled before an image of Dave was displayed. Alongside it, a statement read: “In loving memory of our friend, Dave Myers. 1957 - 2024."
Naturally, viewers were left in floods of tears as they remembered wonderful Dave. "Cannot stop crying. Such a sad loss. Rest in peace Dave. What a fight you put up," one viewer wrote. "Awh so so so sad. You can just see how much Si loved Dave and visa versa. What a loss," another echoed.
"Watching Hairy Bikers goes West again, I'm glad Dave Myers got to eat all those yummy goodies before he passed, his time was spent well enjoying things like oozy middle melting caramelised white chocolate biscuits," another shared.
"Absolutely sobbing watching Hairy Bikers. So sad that Dave has passed. I feel so sorry for Si too," someone else wrote. While another devastated viewer echoed: "Life is just not fair. Crying my eyes out over Dave's beautiful words. So sad he's gone."
Dave’s sad death was announced at the end of February, when his beloved wife Liliana Orzac shared a heartbreaking tribute on Facebook alongside a collection of pictures of her late husband. At the time, she penned: "Rest in peace, my love. My wonderful, brave man! Till next time we meet!" And in a statement of his own, Si wrote: "[My] best friend is on a journey that for now, I can’t follow... I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime."
