Kate's relatable mum request after 'trotting' into pub with Princess Charlotte

As most parents know, you have to be prepared for pretty much anything when it comes to unpredictable young kids and royal children are no exception.

And it seems the Princess of Wales is well aware of this - especially after seemingly finding herself in an unexpected situation with Princess Charlotte. Like many mums and dads before her, she was forced to take the then three-year-old into a south London pub and make a totally relatable request.

The pair had been travelling in a black Range Rover through the capital when it seems Charlotte told her mum - then known as the Duchess of Cambridge - she needed to use the toilet. On the lookout for the nearest bathroom, they pulled up outside The Phoenix pub in Stockwell in 2018 and walked in hand-in-hand to ask if they could use the facilities.

Stunned customers saw the royal pair and couldn't believe how normal they were. Maggie McKinney, a regular at the pub, told MailOnline at the time: "I was sitting in my usual chair and when I looked up I saw Kate Middleton, I mean the Duchess of Cambridge and her daughter Princess Charlotte.

"The little kiddie just trotted in with her mum, went to the toilet and then trotted out. They could not have been in the pub for more than ten minutes. They seem very nice, totally normal. Princess Kate was holding her daughter's hand. Princess Charlotte was just any other little girl.'

Before Kate and Charlotte, now seven, entered the pub a plain clothes woman, believed to be a protection officer, walked in and asked bar staff if a little girl could use the bathroom.

Kate is currently recovering in private from an abdominal surgery she underwent back in January, and is unlikely to return to public life and official royal duties until after Easter. The last few weeks have seen an increase in speculation online about the state of Kate's health, with Kensington Palace stating from the start of her health troubles that she wanted to keep her medical information private.

Things reached a fever pitch when a photo was released for Mother's Day and was quickly recalled by news agencies on the grounds of suspected "manipulation" - leading Kate to take responsibility for the edited image and issue a personal apology for the "confusion" caused by it.
