A teenager has been arrested and charged after a 13-year-old boy was allegedly stabbed as he left a mosque.

Emergency crews raced to the alleged incident in the Queen's Drive area of Glasgow at 8.30pm on Friday.

Medics attended, and the boy was found seriously injured, reports the Daily Record.

He was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment, where medics describe his condition as serious.

It is understood that the boy, who was allegedly attacked moments after leaving a mosque, suffered a punctured lung. Police confirmed a 17-year-old boy has since been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. He is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

The victim's family have shared a picture of the boy in hospital as medics prepared to operate on his wounds. Family friend Aleesha Ntayomba said: "The boy's family asked me to share this to spread awareness for anyone who might get into situations like this."

She added: "He had just came out from the mosque and was wearing a Jubba. The boy is severely wounded. He was seen drenched in blood by a family who called for police and ambulance."

"The boy is in hospital where he will undergo multiple surgeries. He is in severe pain and shock."

Police Scotland Detective Inspector Phillip Kennedy said: "I would like to thank the public for their assistance with our investigation into this incident."
