Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have been arrested in Romania over allegations of sexual aggression.

The controversial social media influencer and his brother were detained on Monday night on charges that date back to between 2012 and 2015. Dozens of police swarmed on the pair's compound in Romania and the pair could be extradited to Britain to face trial.

They were handed a European arrest warrant by UK authorities and an investigation is pending. The pair, who have dual UK and US citizenship, deny all allegations against them.

Romanian police said: "On March 11 this year, at around 11:15pm, the police officers of the Criminal Investigation Service, the Special Actions Service and police officers from the Volunteers implemented two European arrest warrants, issued by the judicial authorities in Great Britain, for committing sexual crimes, exploiting some people on the territory of Great Britain."

Matthew Jury, managing partner at the law firm representing Tate's accusers, said: "Today's news is very welcome as it has been a significant concern to many that Tate would seek to avoid justice in Romania and abroad.

"We are grateful to British authorities for taking our concerns seriously and issuing an arrest warrant. Since his arrest in Romania, Tate has spread a vast amount of disinformation about the criminal allegations he faces in the UK.

"Allowing Tate to spread disinformation about the allegations of criminality he faces, not just in the UK, only helps to support and spread his toxic influence further amongst vulnerable young men and boys, something we should all be seeking to put an end to."

Representatives for the Tates' say that they are "fully committed to challenging these accusations with unwavering determination and resolve".

Andrew, a controversial former kickboxing champion and Big Brother contestant who has previously sparked outrage around the world over claims he's made on social media. and has been labelled the 'king of toxic masculinity', put out a bizarre tweet following their detainment, writing "The Matrix if afraid, but I only fear God."

The charges have resurfaced after previously being dismissed by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in 2017-2019. A spokesperson for the brothers described their arrest as "a bewildering revival of decade-old accusations".

The statement added: "The suggestion that Mr Tate's rise to fame may have played a role in these developments adds another layer of distress and concern.

"Andrew and Tristan Tate unequivocally deny all allegations and decry what they perceive as an exploitative use of the legal system. They are fully committed to challenging these accusations with unwavering determination and resolve.

"The brothers emphasise their belief in a fair and impartial legal process, despite the unsettling circumstances surrounding their case.

"In the face of adversity, the Tate brothers draw strength from the support of their loved ones, friends, and legal team. They appeal for a fair examination of the facts, expressing confidence that a thorough review will reveal the baselessness of the allegations against them."

Both are set to appear in Bucharest Court today where prosecutors will lobby the judge to arrest them for 30 days and begin the extradition process.

Tate and his brother Tristan are currently awaiting trial in Romania after being charged with human trafficking, rape and forming an organised crime group to sexually exploit women on June 20, 2023, along with two Romanian women. A trial date is yet to be set.

The pair were initially in prison after being detained in December 2022, before being put under house arrest. They won an appeal to be released from house arrest last August. The brothers were told they were able to travel anywhere within Romania but could not leave the country.

In January, a Romanian court also overturned a decision to seize Tate's assets, which saw him regain access to his supercars, properties and designer watches. Authorities said at the time the seized property was worth over £3.1million.

In 2019 Hertfordshire police investigated allegations of rape made against Andrew Tate but the case was dropped.
