A pair of leggings from cult British retailer Marks & Spencer have sent shoppers into a frenzy, having been sold online over 100 times in the last 48 hours, thanks to their 'magic' properties that sculpt your figure and provide 'exceptional' comfort.

The £22.50 Magic Shaping High Waisted Leggings don't look anything out of the ordinary and resemble the classic shape of most pants of this style - a skinny fit, elasticated waistband and an ankle-grazer length. But what makes these leggings that extra bit special is its tummy control technology and subtle darts at the grown-on waistband that give the wearer a gorgeous, flattering look.

Available in three different lengths - short/petite, regular and long - the leggings range in sizes from six to 22 and come in two colours, black and an elegant midnight navy and, thanks to their flattering fit, are perfect for chilling out at home with a cosy jumper or dressing up with a floaty shirt and ballet flats.

Shoppers 'can't praise them enough' for being 'brilliant for shaping you' and have described them as 'excellent' due to them not riding down and being thick, good quality material - it's no wonder the leggings have received almost 200 five star reviews.

One said: "Magic Leggings that are magic!" and added: "These are beautiful leggings made of great stretchy material. They can be a little difficult to put on the first time but once on they’re so comfortable. They are very high waisted mine come up to just under my bust but that makes for a smooth outline & more comfort, no elastic digging into your waist & leaving bulges. Can’t praise them enough. They wash well too. I’m very pleased with them & bought both the black & midnight navy."

Another raved about how they "are very comfortable and hold in the wobbly bits" and "pulls you in from every direction".

A third declared: "Best leggings I’ve ever owned! Once I got over the fact they weren’t quite 100% cotton as I thought they were I did fall in love with them and couldn’t stop wearing them. I’m obsessed! I’m getting another pair. They tuck you in in all the right places and are very comfortable," although they did state: "The only downside for me was that I’m very small 5’1 so they bunched a bit at the ankles but didn’t bother me."

While many who were taller appreciated the high waist, which provided a streamlined look, some didn't enjoy how high the leggings came and the long length as one said: "The shaping part of the magic leggings is amazing however the leg length is way too long! I have always worn M&S long length trousers/ leggings but these were far too long, I’ve had to have them shortened."

While M&S' leggings are more fashion centred, there are a number of brands whose shaping leggings can double up as sports leggings and everyday wear. Such as these SPANX EcoCare high-rise stretch-jersey leggings for £58 or these ShapeMove™ Sports tights from H&M for £32.99.
