Royal expert reveals how palace could 'close everything down' over Kate furore
Kate Middleton might have released a statement apologising for the 'confusion' over her Mother's Day photo. But the furore surrounding the snapshot is showing no signs of quieting down.
On Monday, the Princess confirmed that "like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing" after fans pointed out a number of inconsistencies in the snapshot.
Prior to her admission, the image had already been by four major picture agencies over .
Despite Kate's message, people still have questions about why the image was altered. Further fuelling the fire is the fact that the Princess has only been seen once in public since undergoing an operation on her abdomen in January.
ITV's royal editor Chris Ship believes there is a way to quell the increasing speculation - but also concedes it's unlikely to ever happen.
Kate Middleton swears by £19.99 rosehip oil that helps 'reduce wrinkles & scars'Following the apology message, Chris took to X - formerly Twitter - with a suggestion. He wrote: "The way to close everything down would be to release the original photo on which Kate decided to 'experiment with editing'. That's very unlikely, mind you …"
And he was absolutely right. A short time later, Kensington Palace confirmed it would not be releasing the unedited original.
One reason the Princess decided to alter the photos might well be because it was her husband behind the camera. Normally it is down to accomplished photographer Kate to take their public family photos, but since it was Mother's Day, William was the one to capture the image - and chances are he is not quite as talented as his wife.
In her message on X on Monday morning, Kate said: "Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C."
The photo shows the royal sitting down, surrounded by Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis and Prince George, with the latter wrapping his arms around her.
It was the first official photo of Kate since her abdominal surgery two months ago. Since then she has stayed out of the public eye, with only one sighting since she left hospital, when she was photographed being driven by her mother, Carole Middleton.
It comes after Kensington Palace took the unusual step of issuing a statement last week following increasing speculation about Kate's health.
It read: "We were really clear from the start we weren't going to provide a running commentary on the Princess of Wales's health and only provide significant updates. Obviously, we've seen the madness of social media and that is not going to change our strategy. There has been much on social media but the Princess has a right to privacy and asks the public to respect that."
