Oscars chaos as Al Pacino in Best Picture error and Emma Stone's dress breaks
This year's Academy Awards was thrown into chaos before the ceremony even had a chance to begin.
The 2024 Oscars ceremony started five minutes late after pro-Palestine protesters blocked roads and delayed Hollywood's biggest stars as they descended upon the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Celebrities were forced to get out of their cars and walk to the red carpet as protesters called for "ceasefire now".
The night then kicked off with an awkward monologue from host Jimmy Kimmel as he made fun of Robert Downey Jr's drug use and joked about the sex scenes in Poor Things. Emma Stone certainly wasn't happy and seemed to call the comedian a "p***k". And that was just the beginning of the chaos. Here, we've taken a look at all of the mayhem from the 96th Academy Awards ceremony.
Al Pacino's Best Winner blunder

Viewers were confused as hosts usually read out the nominees before announcing the winner. One fan said on X: "I'm obsessed with the way Al Pacino announced Oppenheimer as Best Picture. couldn't have been more chaotic or confusing lol."
Another added: "'My eyes see Oppenheimer?' Al Pacino with an all time #Oscars moment." A third viewer commented: "Al Pacino was like, 'I ain’t standing here while you read out 10 nominees bro. Oppenheimer come get your s**t'."
Emma Stone's wardrobe malfunction
Emma Stone broke her dress before her big win (ITV)Emma Stone took home the Oscar for Best Actress, but suffered a major wardrobe blunder before her big win. The actress, who starred in Poor Things, could be seen holding the back of her Louis Vuitton as she took to the stage to accept her award.
The zip on Emma's dress had busted down her back and she fought back tears as she told the audience: "My dress is broken. I think it happened during I'm Just Ken."
Emma managed to style out the wardrobe malfunction and went on to thank her parents, brother, husband and daughter in her speech.
Naked John Cena

Host Jimmy Kimmel had been referencing the iconic moment from the 1974 Oscars when a streaker turned up at the ceremony when a nervous peeked his head around from the curtain backstage.
John tried to say he wasn't sure about continuing with the plan, but Jimmy encouraged him to come out on stage. The wrestler-turned-actor then stepped out on stage naked, using the nominations envelope to cover his crotch area.
As he read out the winner, a member of the production team ran on stage and John was given a toga-like garment to cover up. Fans were loving the moment and took to X to share their thoughts. "Naked John Cena bit might be the greatest Oscar bit of all time," wrote one fan. Another added: "That was rather funny! I think I woke my neighbors screaming like I did, but I loved it!"
Liza Koshy falling

Despite the embarrassment, Liza managed to brush off the awkward moment and blamed her fall on an imaginary manhole. "That's alright. There was a man hole, y'all saw that?" the actress said as a number of onlookers rushed over to help.
Fans quickly praised Liza for how she reacted to the awkward incident. "Liza Koshy's stumble on the red carpet at the Oscars will always be remembered, but the way she owned it with confidence and flair was just as memorable! Her witty response showed her cool under pressure. While many were quick to joke about the slip, Liza showed her sass and grace through humor," one person wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Kirsten Dunst tripping
Kirsten Dunst also tumbled on the red carpet (Variety/X)Liza wasn't the only one who suffered an embarrassing moment on the red carpet. Kirsten Dunst almost fell to the floor after tripping over her gown.
She walked the red carpet with her husband Jesse Plemons and when he started trailing behind her, Kirsten reached out her hand to help him catch up. Unfortunately, she didn't seem to notice the giant Oscar statue behind her.
Kirsten crashed into the statue and almost tumbled to the floor. It seemed she had tripped over her Gucci gown. She then turned around and held onto the huge statue to make sure it didn't fall over.
Jesse hurried over to his wife to help her. Luckily, they managed to laugh about the incident when both Kirsten and the giant Oscar were safe. She was heard saying: "I walking right into an Oscar!"

Robert Downey Jr wasn't impressed
Robert Downey Jr didn't seem too happy about the jokes (ABC)Robert Downey Jr didn't look happy as Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel joked about the actor's past drug use. "This is the highest point of Robert Downey Jr's long and illustrious career...well one of the highest points..." Jimmy said.
As the cameras panned to Robert, the Iron Man star was seen touching the tip of his nose, prompting Jimmy to ask: "Was that too on the nose or was that a drug motion you made?"
Things became even more awkward when Jimmy quipped: "Is that an acceptance speech in your pocket or do you just have a very rectangular penis?" Robert simply shrugged but remained unsmiling.
Fans were quick to notice the tension and one person posted on X: "Robert Downey Jr if you want to Will Smith slap Jimmy Kimmel I don’t blame you." Another said: "I usually love Kimmel but those Robert Downey Jr jokes were cheap as f**k. Not cool. #TheOscars."
Emma Stone's 'p***k' remark
Emma Stone was also unimpressed with the host (ITV)Robert Downey Jr wasn't the only person left unhappy by Jimmy Kimmel's hosting. Eagle-eyed viewers spotted how unimpressed Emma Stone seemed as the host made a swipe at her film Poor Things.
Jimmy hit out at the film's sex scenes and said they were "not safe for work". The camera then panned to Emma, who fans believe mouthed an insult directed at the host.
"Emma Stone calling Jimmy Kimmel a 'p***k' after he insinuated that Poor Things was only about sex," one person posted on X alongside a video of the awkward moment. Another agreed: "Yep. I caught that too. Worst joke in his set," while a third added: "She isn't wrong."
