John Cena announced the nominees for Best Costume while naked.

The star hesitantly came on stage as part of a bit in reference to an actual streaker at the 1974 award show. Jimmy Kimmel, who was hosting the Oscars, recounted the Hollywood history moment before insinuating that someone was supposed to appear on the stage. A nervous John Cena peeked his head around from the curtain backstage, telling Jimmy that he wasn't sure about continuing with the plan.

Jimmy encouraged John to get out onto the stage to announce the nominees. The wrestler-turned-actor nervously complied as he held a folder in front of himself, covering only his crotch, and shimmied across the stage.

Once he reached the microphone, he introduced the nominees. A bit of padding can be seen gripping his skin behind the card, meaning that production likely took measures to ensure there weren't any wardrobe malfunctions.

By the time he needed to deliver the news on the winner, he was given a toga-like garment to cover up some of his hunky muscles. A glimpse inside the Oscars showed, that while the camera was cut to the nominee's movie clips, a production team ran over to him, handing off the fabric.

By the time the cameras popped back on, Jimmy was seen finicking with the toga. "Naked John Cena bit might be the greatest Oscar bit of all time," wrote one fan. Another added: "That was rather funny! I think I woke my neighbors screaming like I did, but I loved it!"

Of course, there were people with ruffled feathers after the moment. One wrote: "John Cena was once a well respected WWE athlete now he is the joke of Hollywood."

Fans also made a throwback reference to his WWE days when he boasted the tagline "You can't see me." They joked that all they could see was a folder. "I can't see him?" One wrote. Another added: "How’d they get the envelope to float on the stage like that?"

"I don't know why they did this but it was by far the funniest moment of the night so far," a fan laughed. The show continued to surprise fans with hilarious moments like a feud skit between Barbie and Oppenheimer stars.

The Academy Awards might have snubbed Barbie in most of the major categories, but the Mattel blockbuster has eight nominations, including Best Picture. While director Greta Gerwig missed out on Best Director, Ryan Gosling managed to land a nomination for Best Supporting Actor, which infuriated fans as Margot Robbie failed to land any acting nods for her leading role as Stereotypical Barbie.

Ryan, who won legions of fans with his performance of a troubled and easily-led Ken, said he was “disappointed” Margot and Greta missed out, and added: “Their work should be recognised along with the other very deserving nominees.” Robert Downey Jnr., who is favourite to win Best Supporting Actor for his stunning portrayal of Lewis Strauss in Christopher Nolan’s atomic epic, even stated: “Margot Robbie is not getting enough credit, in my opinion.”
