Harvey Elliott has warned Manchester City that their titles will count for nothing when they step out at Anfield.

Liverpool's young winger accepts that Jurgen Klopp ’s men are facing one of the toughest tests in football to halt Pep Guardiola's world, European and Premier League champions. But even at the tender age of 20, he refuses to be overawed by reputations when he has got the Kop’s wall of sound behind him.

Elliott said: “It’s a tough game, we know that - but I don't think we can big it up more than any other game. We will just focus on ourselves and not over analyse or think about it too much.

“We just need to go out and play the way we play, play our football with Anfield behind us. It's a massive help so we just need to go out and do our own thing.

“It's a massive game, of course - but we're a massive club as well and we just need to be thinking about ourselves. Two world-class managers going head to head. But, you know, it's at our home and the gaffer has the fans behind us.

“They are going to be right behind us from the first warm-up and there is no better place to have the final clash. You could say that so we just need to make sure we're all there ready.”

He added: “Look at the players and the squad depth they have, just Man City as a team, they are an unbelievable team. But it is about us not bigging it up too much. We just take it as another game, not worry about it too much, we just do what we do best.

“We will play our football, the way we play and if we're thinking about them too much then our game-plan goes out the window. So we just have to step up and make sure we're ready from the start.”

Liverpool got themselves in the mood for goals with a 5-1 Europa League victory at Sparta Prague that virtually guaranteed their passage into the quarter-finals.

Darwin Nunez struck twice to make it 17 for the season and five in his last four matches - and Elliott believes the Uruguayan has finally found the confidence to deliver on his £85million price-tag.

Elliott said: “Darwin is massive for us - and not just for the weekend but for any game for Liverpool. He is a massive player, hence the price tag and why Liverpool brought him in. He is an unbelievable talent and he is only going to get better and better.

“He is showing glimpses of his goalscoring ability and we are all so happy for him. He just needs to keep going, keep the confidence going.

“You know he has always had the skill and the quality, I think just sometimes it was a confidence thing. Now he is showing it. He just needs to keep going, keep working hard and we will support him all of the way. We know what he is capable of doing.”
