Max George has left fans concerned after he revealed that he's been forced to pull out of his upcoming play - just weeks before opening night leaving the show in a state of chaos.

The singer, 35, was set to star in the stage production of Kay Mellor's The Syndicate alongside former Coronation Street star Brooke Vincent and Emmerdale's Samantha Giles. The show will kick off next month but Max will be nowhere to be seen as 'personal reasons' have meant he has had to bow out of the production, leaving production in a state of panic. The show is being directed by Kay Mellor's daughter Gaynor Faye.

In a statement, Max, who is dating former EastEnders actress Maisie Smith, said: "Hey everyone. Really gutted but for personal reasons I won’t be taking part in The Syndicate. It’s gonna be an amazing show and I wish Gaynor and all the cast all the luck in the world. I’ll be there to cheer you on once I’m feeling better."

Leading up to his statement, fans noticed that he was not part of the latest promo for the production. Taking to social media, one person wrote: "Is Max not doing it anymore?” Another person said: "What about Max we have not been told nothing about Max." Meanwhile, a third commented: "Is it true Max is very poorly and won’t be performing?” Unfortunately, Max's shocking news comes just after he returned from a romantic break in Dubai with Maisie.

Back in January, it had been speculated that the couple had split after spending New Year's Eve apart despite having moved in together. Maisie spent that time with her family. And another sign that sparked concern among fans, was that Maisie hadn't posted as much as usual. Last year, Maisie made the decision to move away from her family and friends in Essex to live with Max up north in Manchester. Maisie decided to put her relationship first and at that time the couple had planned to buy a home together.

Despite rumours of a split, Maisie had previously stated that Max was The One. She told Fabulous magazine: "We have so many plans and I see so much of my future with him stuff I didn't even know I was capable of seeing. It still feels like the honeymoon stage. I don't know at what point that ends, but we're still there." Despite their 13-year age gap which has been the subject of much discussion since they got together last summer, the star said that she feels as though they are both on the "same level."

Max had been cast as a supermarket assistant named Jamie. Speaking of his role: "I’m delighted that my stage debut role is in The Syndicate. I’m such a huge fan of Kay’s work, and it’s an honour to be part of this world premiere tour. I feel like I’ve won the lottery!"
