Kyle Walker gives Man City dressing room reaction to Trent Alexander-Arnold jibe
Kyle Walker has revealed that Trent Alexander-Arnold’s controversial comments about Liverpool’s recent success have been discussed by the Manchester City squad.
Alexander-Arnold has raised eyebrows ahead of Liverpool ’s huge Premier League game against City on Sunday by giving a provocative interview. The Reds right-back claimed his side’s success “means more” than City’s because they are “a machine that’s built to win”.
Liverpool are a point clear of City at the top of the Premier League ahead of the 3.45pm kick-off at Anfield on Sunday. Arsenal can leapfrog both sides by beating Brentford on Saturday evening, but the result will prove crucial in the title race.
Walker appeared on Rio Ferdinand ’s FIVE podcast in the build-up to the match and was asked about Alexander-Arnold’s comments. “Nah, I’m not even getting involved in that,” he replied. “That is an area I’m not even getting involved in. It’s been floating around the changing room today.”
Ferdinand then added: “That would be half of your team talk though wouldn’t it? Whether he means it or not.” Walker then revealed that he has never won a match at Anfield, saying: “I’ve never won there, never, with any team.”

Asked why he thinks his teams have struggled there, he replied: “They’ve had some good players haven’t they? And the fans are incredible. That’s one thing I do say: the fans are really, really good.”
Liverpool vs Manchester City did not necessarily need any extra hype, but Alexander-Arnold’s thoughts have clearly ramped up the rivalry between the two sides. "It's tough. We're up against a machine that's built to win – that's the simplest way to describe City and their organisation," he told Four Four Two.

City have won five of the past six Premier League titles, with Liverpool the only side to prevent them from making it a clean sweep by lifting the trophy in 2019/20. Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp ’s team missed out on the title in the 2018/19 and 2021/22 seasons by just one point.
Pep Guardiola ’s side are at the centre of a financial investigation by the Premier League, with 115 charges for alleged offences between 2009 and 2018. City completed the Treble last season by winning the FA Cup and Champions League as well as the Premier League and have insisted everything is above board and have vowed to defend themselves against the charges.
