Matthew Perry's former girlfriend, Kayti Edwards, said he was looking for a family life before he died.

The Friends star died from what was called "acute effects" of ketamine. When the authorities arrived on the scene, they found the actor dead in his hot tub and ruled out foul play.

Toxicology reports later revealed the drugs in his system. He had fought drug and mental health problems in the past and was undergoing ketamine infusion therapy to treat depression before his death. However, this drug is supposed to leave the body in a few hours. His last treatment was over a week before he died.

While friends of Matthew thought he was doing better, Kayti seems to think there might have been something missing in his life. When the actor died, he was not actively in a relationship with anyone that the public is aware of. She remembers being surprised he was engaged but says how he “always craved a family”.

"Having children was a big part of his dream. He felt like he was getting older, so it did not surprise me that he was getting married so quickly. He felt this clock was ticking," she says.

Matthew's last known relationship before his death was with Molly Hurwitz. The pair were engaged after Matthew proposed to her while in rehab. At the time, he was "high on 1800 milligrams of hydrocodone."

"I had even asked for her family’s blessing. Then I’d proposed, high as a kite. And on one knee. And she knew it, too. And she said yes," he wrote in his memoir. "I bought her a ring because I was desperate that she would leave me. I didn’t want to be this injured and alone during Covid."

By the time he was sober, everything caught up with Matthew and he was confused about how he had gotten there. In Los Angeles, Molly and him were engaged and living with her dogs. By 2021, they ended their relationship, but Matthew always wished her well publicly.

Before Molly, Matthew had been in a handful of other high-profile relationships including with Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz, and Rachel Dunn.
