Bayern Munich add another Liverpool candidate to wishlist in Alonso back-up plan
Bayern Munich have added Roberto De Zerbi to their shortlist for their next manager.
The Bundesliga giants are on the search for a new boss after announcing Thomas Tuchel will leave his post at the end of the season. Though he has guided them into the quarter-finals of the Champions League, Tuchel has endured a dreadful first full year in charge.
Tuchel's men are 11 points adrift of leaders Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga and were knocked out of the DFB-Pokal by third tier Saarbruken. Their dreadful performances led to Bayern chiefs opting to part ways with the German, though they will wait until the of the season.
At the top of their list is Xabi Alonso, who has led Leverkusen during their astonishing unbeaten season. But the Spaniard is also being chased hard by Liverpool, who themselves are looking to replace Jurgen Klopp.
That means Bayern are being forced to explore alternative options, in case they unable to land Alonso. According to Sky Germany, the German side could pursue a move for Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi.

Bayern's new board member for sport Max Eberl is said to hold a 'very high opinion' of the Italian, who has impressed with the Seagulls since taking over last year. He has followed up a sixth-place finish last season with a current seventh-place effort this term.
De Zerbi is already seen as being one of the most sought-after coaches in the upcoming summer. He has a relatively cheap release clause of less than £10million, which is also attractive to prospective teams.

The Leverkusen boss is the 'absolute preferred candidate', though De Zerbi is also in the running to take over at Barcelona so Bayern may have to act quickly to secure his services if Alonso turns them down.
Speculation of a potential departure from Brighton have ramped up over the course of this season. But ahead of the Seagulls' hammering at Roma on Thursday night, De Zerbi committed himself to the South Coast side.
"It’s not true that I don’t think about it, but usually I do what I like. I do what makes me happy and right now it is to be where I am. I’m lucky now to be able to compete with these teams at this level to play these games," he said.
"It makes me happy when we win but also when we lose, I feel something special. One day I will come back to Italy, I don’t know when this day will come. But it’s true that when I made this choice a couple of years ago to go to Shakhtar.
"I did it because I wanted to find a way outside Italy and, without going into too much detail, there were some things in Italy that I didn’t like so I decided to try something else."
