Eagle-eyed Emmerdale fans were left adjusting their TV sets after noticing a a subtle reference to Coronation Street.

The unexpected background shot was seen during the March 5 episode of the ITV show, as Rhona spoke of her fears of going to prison while speaking to Vanessa. Despite their deep conversation, fans were more preoccupied with the background image of Chit Chat magazine, which is usually referenced in Coronation Street. As the pair were talking in the village café, an extra on the show could be seen reading a copy of the fictional magazine, which has been part of Corrie scenes for years.

Recently, Coronation Street fans saw Bethany Platt selling a story to the magazine editor about Daisy Midgeley and Ryan Connor's acid attack and the affair. But this is not the first time soaps have crossed over as Emmerdale, Coronation Street, EastEnders, Hollyoaks, Holby City, Casualty and Doctors, came together to raise awareness of Climate change in 2021.

All seven soaps ran a storyline in reference to the globally topical issue with five shows mentioning others within the special episodes, linking them all together. Back in 2010 rival soaps EastEnders and Coronation Street came together for a unique Children In Need episode.

And fans were pleased to see certain characters from each soap head to Albert Square and Weatherfield. Jason Grimshaw made the journey to the Queen Vic pub while Kat Slater teamed up with Liz McDonald for a one-off shift behind the bar at the Rovers.

But in true Kat Slater style, she clashed with Michelle Connor played by Kym Marsh while Dev Alahan locked horns with EastEnders' postman Masood Ahmed.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in Emmerdale Kerry Wyatt, played by Laura Norton, made a return to the ITV soap after 16 months away from the Dales. Laura who has been on maternity leave said of her return: "She's [ Kerry] been on a cruise ship as a Cher impersonator and she has been a naughty girl. How I've told myself the story of how it's unfolded - she had such an awful time."

She added: "She made friends with Chas, she met this guy who she never thought in her wildest dreams would want to be with her. They had an affair, he died. And I think she just felt really low. I think those times in your life, you just remove yourself from everyone that knows you."

Laura continued: "I think she's just gone somewhere where she can reset as Kerry and be the best version of herself where she's not got a past and baggage around her. People know her as this really fun person and she's not being a terrible mum and she's not being called out for being a rubbish friend, I think she's just found a new lease of life but it's almost like reset her too far. She's just up to her old tricks and just making a few bad decisions and being a bit naughty, all in the name of the fun!"
