Jake Paul has wanted to KO Mike Tyson since boxing legend called him wrong name

Jake Paul stopped idolising Mike Tyson when he boxing legend mistook him for brother Logan.

Paul and Tyson will meet in a heavyweight fight in Texas in July, despite the social media star being 20 years younger than his rival who will turn 58 before the first bell. Paul has won nine of his 10 professional fights but has yet to beat anyone of any note.

Tyson was last in the ring in 2020 when he took on fellow legend Roy Jones Jr in a bore draw and he last took part in a professional bout when he retired on his stool after five rounds of his bout with Kevin McBride in 2005. And after the announcement, Paul tweeted: "I idolised Mike Tyson until the first time I met him four years ago…he called me Logan. Going to make sure he knows who I am real close and personal."

He later added on a YouTube video: "It was all going great. I was meeting my childhood hero for the first time. Then he said this: "Where you from, Logan?". Imagine meeting your childhood hero for the first time and he calls you your brother's name. We don't even look alike. Ever since that day, Mike, I've wanted to knock you out."

The fight will be broadcast on Netflix and Paul added: "It’s crazy to think that in my second pro fight, I went viral for knocking out Nate Robinson on Mike Tyson’s undercard. Now, less than four years later, I’m stepping up to face Tyson myself to see if I have what it takes to beat one of boxing’s most notorious fighters and biggest icons. Within just two and a half years of founding MVP, we’re about to produce the biggest fight in history, a fight in the biggest NFL stadium in the US, broadcast live, on the biggest streaming platform in the world – a testament to all we’ve accomplished in such a short amount of time.
