Hairy Bikers' Si King heartbroken about filming show without co-star Dave Myers
Hairy Bikers star, Si King, shared a heartbreaking statement about his late friend, Dave Myers, on their show, Go West on Tuesday.
The best pals filmed the show on BBC Two before Dave sadly died last week after the TV chef lost his battle with cancer, aged 66. In the first programme to air since the star's passing, Si explains his friend is too unwell to appear in part of the episode, which is set in North Wales.
After telling the owners of a permaculture farming firm “they’ve got the B team, not the A team,” the TV chef went on to say how much he missed his mate by his side. Visibly emotional, Si says: “I genuinely wish my best mate was here because he would absolutely love this. This is what we’re all about, it’s fantastic. And he’s a good grower, Dave. Dave and his wife are good growers.” He also admitted he didn’t enjoy travelling alone, sharing: “I didn’t like riding on my own, particularly, but I’m going to take him some produce back and have a nibble.” Si added, pensively: “It’s odd without him.”
Later on in the show, Dave was fortunately well enough to visit an historic railway in Portmadog where he was able to fulfil a lifelong ambition of driving a steam train. After watching his best friend's face light up, Si said: “It was nice to see my best mate driving a train. It was just lush to see a smile on his face because he had a bloody rough time."
Dave would have wanted fans to enjoy the "magical series" he shot with his co-star before his tragic death, according to a post on his Instagram page. It said: "Despite such sad times we know that Dave would have wanted you to continue to enjoy the magical series that he shot with Si last year. We'd like to thank everyone from all over the world, who has reached out with messages of love and support over the last few days. Every one of them has been read and truly appreciated."
Hairy Bikers star Si King shares news as fans left gutted by show updateSi star paid an emotional tribute to the former make-up artist, who he met in 1995 on the set of a Catherine Cookson TV miniseries after the heartbreaking news of his death was announced. Telling fans this was 'one journey he couldn't join Dave on', he said: "My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can’t follow. I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime. I wish you god’s speed brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world. See you on the other side. Love ya."
