Jayden Daniels stance on New England Patriots clear after 2024 draft claim

Jayden Daniels, the LSU quarterback, has used social media to deny rumours that he doesn't want to be picked by the New England Patriots in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Patriots have struggled since Tom Brady left for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020. Last season, in particular, they only managed a 4-13 record as they struggled with their quarterbacks Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe.

On the other hand, Daniels had a fantastic college football season in 2023. He won several awards, threw for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns, and ran for 1,134 yards and an extra 10 scores over 12 games.

After leading his school to a 9-3 record, Daniels became the third LSU player after Billy Cannon and Joe Burrow to win the Heisman Trophy.

Daniels is one of the top quarterback prospects expected to be chosen early in the draft, along with Caleb Williams and Drake Maye. The Patriots have the third pick after the Chicago Bears and Washington Commanders, putting them in a great position to secure their future quarterback.

Recently, there were rumours that some people in Daniels' team didn't want him to be picked by the Patriots. But on Tuesday, Daniels personally put an end to these rumours by tweeting an emoji of a cap, indicating that the rumour was false.

Daniels's agency, EAG Sports Management, also dismissed the rumours in a tweet earlier in the day. Denise White, the CEO of EAG, posted on X: "Your rumors are wrong. So now we post rumors and not substantiated facts? Jayden’s camp will be happy wherever he lands and is excited for him to be a part of the NFL."

With the NFL Draft happening next month, many are curious about where Daniels will end up. Washington is emerging as a real possibility, with the 23-year-old suddenly becoming more popular than presumed second-overall pick Maye.

On Monday, NFL personality Rich Eisen said he heard chatter at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis that Daniels has overtaken Maye on many franchises' draft boards, making him the second-best quarterback in the class behind Williams. Eisen stated: "I'll just flat-out tell you: Daniels is QB2 in this draft. That's it.

"And the reasoning I keep hearing about it is him vs Maye - and a few people think Daniels is QB1 - but the reason you keep hearing for him above Maye is every defensive coordinator or defensive coach you come across at the combine says this is the nightmare fuel when you're trying to stop a quarterback. And all you would hear from defensive coaches in the SEC who took this kid on - worst nightmare for them, prepping and playing, all year."

Daniels will showcase his skills at LSU's Pro Day on March 29 in Baton Rouge. He will find out about his future at the 2024 NFL Draft, taking place from April 25-27.
