Police are investigating claims two cars were racing each other before a mum and a four-year-old were killed as they walked to school.

Justyna Hulboj, 27, and Lena Czepczor, 4, described as a “sparkle” died after a white Audi hit them.

Police said two cars had been travelling in convoy before the accident and were appealing for information about their speeds.

The mum and daughter were killed after it is believed that the Audi TTRS mounted the pavement on Monday morning just after 8.30am while they were walking to a local primary school.

The little girl’s body was apparently thrown 70ft over a 12ft wall, ending up on the forecourt of the Vertu Leeds Jaguar Land Rover dealership.

The body was believed to have been found by horrified sales staff when they came out of the office to see what was going on.

The Audi had crashed into a concrete wall around the dealership and the driver taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Eye witnesses said the driver was lucky to be alive as the front end of the car was totally destroyed.

Three people have now been arrested in connection with the double tragedy.

Later a man was seen at the crash scene leaning against a wall with his head in his hands in grief with a teddy bear on the wall above him.

Commenting on West Yorkshire Police ’s Facebook page, locals told how the road was used as a “racetrack” and demanded action.

Local Christopher Gaunt told of previously seeing cars “racing each other off the lights and bombing along the care...no care or regard for anybody.”

Fellow resident, Malcolm Stimpson has previously complained about “cars screaming down Scott hall road” and said after the latest incident: “The poor family. It was only a matter of time before something like this happened.

“That road has become a racing track over the last two years with cars speeding down there in excess of 100mph. It’s crazy and the police do nothing!!

“Sometimes even racing each other down there from King Lane roundabout after the speed camera as the next one isn’t till after the lights where Scott hall pub used to be.

“Maybe something will finally be done and the poor people’s death won’t have been in vain.”

Another added: “Heartbreaking news. I live nearby Scott Hall Road and often see cars at high speeds. It’s not the first time there has been a serious accident. Something needs to be done.”

West Yorkshire Police said their investigation had revealed that the white Audi had been travelling in convoy with a grey BMW 135i prior to the collision.

A 26-year-old man arrested yesterday morning on suspicion of two offences of causing death by dangerous driving remains in custody.

Another man, aged 34, has been arrested on suspicion of two offences of causing death by dangerous driving and is also being held.

A 65-year-old woman has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and released on bail.

Family members of the mum and daughter told of their devastation.

Gran Graznya Czepvzor saying on Facebook: “My daughter and granddaughter - may the Lord grant them eternal rest.”

Another relative Teresa Jancz wrote on Facebook: “My sparkle is out with her beautiful mother. You will remain in my heart.”

Vertu Leeds Jaguar Land Rover said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this horrific incident.”

Officers are urging anyone with dashcam footage or who has seen any part of this incident, including the manner of driving of the Audi and BMW prior to this collision, to make contact.

Detective inspector Paul Conroy, said: “This is an absolutely tragic incident, and we are working to support the family of the woman and child involved.

“We have already spoken to a number of witnesses but are keen to speak to anyone else who has witnessed the collision itself or the events leading up to it.

“We would also ask anyone who was in the area around the time of this collision to check their dashcam footage.”

An online fundraising campaign has been launched to help the family return their bodies to Poland.

The organiser wrote: “Their death came suddenly and unexpectedly, the family is not ready for it, so they need financial help to organise the transport from Leeds to Poland and the burial of these two angels to send these two beautiful souls away with dignity where they will know eternal peace.”
