Phil Foden warned his rivals he can get even better - after tearing Manchester United apart with his derby double.

England star Foden took his goal tally for the season to a career-best 18 with his second-half strikes in Manchester City's 3-1 win over their local rivals on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola hailed Foden as the best player in the Premier League on current form, but the 23-year-old reckons he can take his game to another level and become even more dangerous.

“I think I’m playing my best football, consistently as well,” said Foden. “I’m really happy with the way I’m playing and I want to keep it up. I think I’ve just grown as a player.

“Each year, I put the work in on the training pitch and now I’m getting the rewards that I believe I deserve. I want to keep it up, keep working hard and hopefully keep scoring many more goals.

“I’ve been practicing on my finishing this year – quite a lot after training. I’m really delighted with this one. I want to be that player – I want to win games for the team and turn up in the biggest games.

“I’ve got a good run of games now – I seem to be starting a lot more and I think that helps to find your feet. I want to be involved in goals and always be in the box. It’s coming off well this year and I want to score even more.”

City skipper Kyle Walker paid tribute to Foden and said: “Phil has been absolutely class. He’s had a lot of top players in front of him, especially since we started, with the likes of Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling, Bernardo when he’s played on the right and Riyad Mahrez.

"He’s been patient, he’s bided his time and now he’s reaping the rewards. He’s coming up to 24 and he’s not a young lad anymore. It’s about taking a little bit of the weight and he’s doing that extremely well - long may it continue.”
