Bargain-hunting Dad manages to save £7,000 on dream Caribbean cruise for family
A dad managed to bag his family a trip of a lifetime with a whopping £7,000 discount.
After shivering their way through the winter months in the UK, Steve and his wife decided to get together with some family friends to book "an amazing Caribbean cruise for seven nights".
"We’d been talking about it for a long time, and since the kids were the perfect age to take it all in, we jumped at the opportunity," the 42-year-old told the Mirror. "We flew to Barbados, boarded, and made several stops, including Antigua, St. Kitts, and Guadeloupe. The kids particularly enjoyed snorkelling in Antigua, while us big kids were huge fans of the beach bars."
The company director was very impressed with the shop, which "didn’t feel crowded or claustrophobic" despite there being hundreds of people onboard.
"We had two cabins on the ship, one for each family, and they were spot on. The rooms were definitely cosy but a lot more spacious than we’d originally expected, with four of us sharing," he explained. "The beds were about as comfy as you need at sea, and there weren’t any restless nights, which was a win for us. We bagged an all-inclusive deal, so all meals were covered, including unlimited soft and alcoholic drinks."
Brit uses browser hack to bag business class seat for less than price of economyUnsurprisingly, such a break did not come cheap. When Steve first found the cruise online it cost £12,800. Undeterred, he started looking around online in the hope of securing himself a discount and landed on a major bargain.
"The original booking ended up coming to around £12,800 altogether. The discount we found on MyVoucherCodes gave us around 60% off, so we only ended up paying just over £5,000," Steve continued. "We booked through TUI as they had more winter cruise options. We went on the cruise last February, and it was the first time I’d used a voucher code for a holiday specifically."
He added that he had initially been skeptical as to whether the offer would work - he frequently uses voucher codes for various online purchases, but had not tried to do so for a holiday booking before.
"It’s a smart way to make every penny count. We’d always toyed with the idea of going on a cruise and after the drab winter last year, we decided it was finally time," he said. “The original quoted price was eye-watering, but I happened to find a voucher code online for the travel company that allowed us to book a holiday that we might not otherwise have been able to afford.”
When asked why he chose to book during that particular time of year, he said: “Booking during the winter months not only gave us something to look forward to as a family but helped us combat the dreaded winter slump with the excitement of planning a holiday.”
