Wayne Rooney will be the star pundit for TNT Sports’ coverage of Everton ’s trip to Manchester United on Saturday.

Former England captain Rooney, 38, is regarded as a legend by fans of both clubs as he started his career at Everton and later became United’s record goalscorer.

Rooney will be alongside former United team-mate Rio Ferdinand as well as Joleon Lescott pitch side to give his verdict on the crunch Premier League lunchtime clash. United desperately need to win to boost their chances of European football while Everton need the points for survival.

It is the latest TV appearance for Rooney who was a star turn in the BBC ’s coverage of United’s FA Cup win at Nottingham Forest last week. Rooney has also previously been on Sky and TNT signing him up for this weekend is a big coup as he is a huge name after his 19 year playing career.

Ex-United hero Rooney has already begun his managerial and coaching career, having worked at Derby, DC United and most recently Birmingham City.

He has made it clear that he wants to go back into coaching in the future and will look to get back on that path at some stage. However, Rooney is becoming very popular among the TV companies as he is proving to be an excellent and insightful pundit.

Rooney was outspoken as a player but, having won the title five times, he can also offer an expert view on his former clubs. There is a feeling that TV companies will look to snap him up as a regular pundit because he will be one of the biggest names available.
