Meghan Markle's former best friend explains heartless move behind major fall out

Meghan Markle and Ninaki Priddy were once inseparable, but after three decades of friendship they had a major falling out.

The pair met when they were just two years old on their first day at the Los Angeles private school Little Red Schoolhouse. They developed a strong bond after also attending Immaculate Heart High School together and Meghan didn't hesitate to ask Ninaki to be her maid of honour when she tied the knot with Trevor Engelson in Jamaica in 2011.

After Meghan and Trevor split in 2013, however, Ninaki cut ties with her friend. She said she disapproved of the way Meghan broke up with her ex-husband.

Meghan is believed to have moved on with celebrity chef Cory Vitiello just months after separating from Trevor. Ninaki said she tried to get details from Meghan about her split and new romance, but she refused to give any.

"What came to light after Trevor and I spoke ended my friendship with Meghan. I think everybody who knew them both was in shock," Ninaki told the Daily Mail. She said she spoke to Trevor a month after Meghan filed for divorce.

Ninaki insisted Trevor wanted to "make their marriage work" despite feeling "hurt". However, Ninaki believes her former pal didn't give Trevor "enough of an opportunity".

Ninaki also said Meghan changed after finding fame. The Duchess of Sussex got her big break after starring as Rachel Zane on the hit legal drama Suits. According to Meghan's pal, the actress would "turn down lunch" out of fear of being recognised.

She added: "‘Her time became increasingly important. When she was in town, she'd want you to drop everything to see her. If I was busy, it would be, 'Why don't you want to see me?'"

Meghan and Ninaki started to speak to each other less and less after Meghan joined the cast of Suits, with the Duchess of Sussex gaining a new circle of friends. Ninaki sadly admitted Meghan "wasn't the friend I'd grown up with".

She accused Meghan of becoming "very cold" when they stopped being friends and described it as a "shutdown mechanism she has". Ninaki admitted the end of their friendship "was like a death". She added: "I mourned it for quite a while. Even now I’ll pass by a magazine stand and see a face staring out at me that was such a big part of my life."
