Manchester United will be aiming to avoid a derby pasting when they head to the Etihad on Sunday.

Manchester City secured a 3-0 win at Old Trafford earlier this season and need the points to aid their title charge. United though need a win to remain in the battle for the top four with Aston Villa and Tottenham also in the mix as Erik ten Hag looks to prove he is still the man to take the club forward.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has come on board and has already begun putting blocks in place as he looks to improve United's fortunes. The Red Devils were beaten in their last league outing against Fulham, but responded in midweek as they saw off Nottingham Forest.

Here's the latest from Old Trafford.

Greenwood considers Prem return

Mason Greenwood will consider returning to Manchester in order to ease his parents' alleged marital problems.

The striker joined Getafe on loan in September after it was determined he had no future at Old Trafford. Earlier this week it was reported that Greenwood would be 'reluctant' to return to United as he has little desire to represent the club again. However The Sun has claimed that Greenwood could change his mind due to his parents.

It reports that the relationship between Greenwood's parent has been 'strained' following his move to Spain, with his father and agent, Andrew, joining him overseas. His mother, Melanie, has remained in England. Although Greenwood is happy in Spain, it's said that he recognises that he may have to return to the Premier League in the wake of the impact the enforced separation has had on his parents.

Ashworth meets with Potter

Dan Ashworth met with former Chelsea boss Graham Potter last weekend as questions continue to be asked of Ten Hag. Newcastle's sporting director Ashworth is expected to join United once a compensation package is agreed after he was placed on gardening leave by the Toon.

Ratcliffe has already begun plotting changes at Old Trafford and it's understood that not even Ten Hag himself is safe after overseeing an underwhelming campaign. The Sun has now reported that Ashworth recently met with Potter, who has been unattached since leaving Chelsea last April.

Potter's stock was high at Brighton before his poor spell with the Blues. Whilst he was in charge of the Seagulls he oversaw wins against United, both at home and on the road, and a switch to Manchester could yet be on the cards.X

Ten Hag backed for the sack

Dutch legend Wim Kieft believes that Erik ten Hag is finished at Manchester United.

Kieft, the former Ajax and PSV Eindhoven striker who helped Holland win the Euros in 1988, reckons a decision on Ten Hag’s future has already been taken and he believes that Ratcliffe is well within his rights to axe the Dutchman from his role.

He said: “At Manchester United, the football is still not to be seen - and therefore I expect Ten Hag to be in his last year. The climate Ten Hag has to work in at United is completely different from City. At the neighbours, you see a certain atmosphere, there is a true football culture and everything looks like a team, even at the top of their organisation."
