Meghan Markle's 'unusual' behaviour in public revealed by royal photographer

Meghan Markle was “noticeably” more tactile than the rest of the royals when she joined the famous family, says royal photographer.

and 39-year-old are known for often holding hands - a clear breakaway from the usual formality we see in Royal relationships. Although there is no official royal protocol against it, and are very rarely seen holding hands or showing any public displays of affection. Ever since Meghan came on the scene, The Sussexes tactile relationship has been markedly different to the royal relationships we have seen before.

Award-winning photographer Samir Hussein, who captured the infamous 2020 picture of the Duke and Duchess leaning into each other under an umbrella, has described the couple’s tactile behaviour as “unusual”. The artist is the son of Anwar Hussein, who is well-known for his photography of the late Princess Diana, so spent a lot of time around the royals while growing up.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Samir described the change he saw when Meghan came on the scene. He said: “It was very noticeable when Meghan came on the scene just how tactile she was, like holding the Duke’s hand and being arm-in-arm, so that was quite unusual.”

Samir’s famous umbrella photo of the couple will go on display in a new London exhibition charting his family’s photography of the monarchy over the years. The installation, titled Princess Diana: Accredited Access will come to the capital on May 25.

Samir described how the exhibit will tell a “unique, untold story” about how “Diana changed the world. He said: “It shows how she was a royal mum, and modernised motherhood in many ways as a royal by being very hands-on and a loving mom and you can see that legacy in William and Harry.”

The artist spoke about what it was like growing up around the Royal Family and being the son of the longest-serving royal photographer. He described: “It was very relaxed. we would play around and William and Harry would be playing there as well, so we were kind of exposed to all of that from a young age.”
