BRIT winner Kylie Minogue's heartbreaking explanation for quitting Britain

BRIT Award legend Kylie Minogue has been honoured at the glittering ceremony with the Global Icon gong tonight.

The princess of pop was back in Britain to pick up her award in person, three years after she devastated fans by quitting her base in England and moving back to her native Australia. The star was an icon in Britain for a long time and had lived in London since 1990. In an emotional appearance on BBC Radio 2 she confirmed her plans.

"It is true, I will be basing myself in Australia," she revealed at the time. "I can't believe the reaction it's had. I've had friends call me, my friend at my local restaurant was like: 'Kylie, what do you mean? You can't go' I spent a lot of time with my family this year in Australia and it felt really good... I've been talking about that for a while. Of course I've lived here for 30 years. I'm always going to be back."

It was first exclusively reported by The Mirror that Kylie made the decision to leave the country. A source close to Kylie added: “This is something she has been thinking about for a while. This year, when she was in Australia for an extended period due to travel restrictions, it gave her time to think about where she wants to be based

“Like many artists she spends much of her life on the road or travelling so she doesn’t anticipate that this is a major change for her as she’s never in one place for a long time anyway. Covid has given her a lot of time to think about the future and she wants to see more of her family in the times when she isn’t travelling, and so she will use Australia as her base.”

In newly-filed documents, the star has changed the service address for her four main businesses to an address in Haw-thorn, a suburb of Melbourne. Her place of residence as director on the business documents has also been changed from England to Australia. A source close to Kylie said: “She’s changed her company details to reflect that she is moving.”
