Ellie Goulding's love life - from divorce to art dealer to hunky surfer fling
Ellie Goulding hit the headlines recently when she was pictured getting close to a hot surf instructor on holiday in Costa Rica. The star, who recently separated from her husband of four years Caspar Jopling, previously dated a host of famous names in her quest for love. As the singer prepares to perform at tonight's BRITs, we take a look back at her romantic history.
Greg James
Ellie, 37, dated BBC Radio One DJ Greg for 18 months from 2010 after they met at one of her live shows. The couple kept their relationship on the down low before, in true showbiz fashion, conflicting career schedules were cited for their break up. Greg, 38, is now wed to author Bella Mackie.

The American musician, real name Sonny John Moore, enjoyed a seven-month long distance relationship with Ellie back in 2012 after they collaborated on the song Bittersweet for the Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part Two soundtrack. And despite the relationship not reaching the year point, the singer was smitten with Skrillex, 36, saying: "I just met someone, fell in love with them and that's it."

Jeremy Irvine
The star was with actor Jeremy, the 33-year-old star of War Horse and Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, for a little under a year in 2013. The couple made several red carpet appearances together but Ellie later told how her jealousy had ruined relationships in her 20s, describing her younger self as a: "jealous, chaotic, frenzied person".
Ed Sheeran
Ellie and Ed were linked in 2013 when they were spotted holding hands at the MTA VMA Awards. She immediately took to Twitter to shut down the rumours, saying: "I love that holding hands with my friends means we're an item" in a post she later deleted. But later that year the Shape Of You singer, 33, told a US radio station: "Normal people don't hold hands if they're just friends".

The star dated One Direction star Niall, a pal of Ed Sheeran, in 2013 fuelling speculation Ed's hit song Don't, which tells the story of an ex cheating on him with a friend, was about her. "I did go on a few dates with Niall but I was never in a relationship with Ed," she later clarified. "I have absolutely no idea where that came from and why it was turned into such a big thing."
Dougie Poynter
McFly drummer Dougie, 36, was with Ellie for two years from 2014, with the singer speaking of her sadness after they split. "I’m not in a relationship any more and that’s been hard," she said. "Dougie is one of the most special people in the world... he’s still one of my best friends." Ellie went on to invite Dougie to her wedding to Caspar Jopling but he declined.
Prince Harry
Ellie was linked to the royal in 2016 after they were seen "all over each other" at a polo event. The couple were rumoured to have enjoyed a smooch under a blanket at a late-night party following the match but the brief romance has never been confirmed.

Caspar Jopling
Love Me Like You Do singer Ellie began dating art dealer Caspar, 32, in 2017 after they were introduced by mutual friends including Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. The couple tied the knot at York Minster in August 2019 in front of A-list guests including singer Katy Petty and her actor husband Orlando Bloom. They had a son, two-year-old Arthur but by June 2023 the couple were rumoured to be living apart.

With her marriage falling apart, the star grew close with Tory peer Zac Goldsmith, 49. They bonded over their interest in the environment, first meeting at the COP26 climate change conference in Glasgow in November 2021 but denied there was any more to their relationship than friendship.
Armando Perez
Surf instructor Armando taught singer Shakira to ride the waves before Ellie holidayed in Costa Rica and took lessons with him too. When they were pictured kissing and cuddling on the beach, Ellie confirmed she had split from her husband. "Caspar and I privately separated some time ago," she said. "We remain the closest of friends and have been successfully co-parenting with our son's best interests at heart."
