Underrated UK seaside town home to 'most pristine beach' with no crowds
An underrated seaside town is home to one of the UK's 'most pristine beaches' - and yet it has the added perk that you won't find the huge crowds you'd expect at other hotspots across Britain.
Coldingham isn't top of the list when it comes to a seaside break, but the coastal town boasts a handy location just over an hour from Edinburgh, and some gorgeous sandy shores along the Berwickshire coast.
The main beach to bookmark is Coldingham Sands, a sheltered beach with golden sands, clean waters and rugged coastal surroundings thanks to its location within the St Abbs and Eyemouth Voluntary Marine Reserve.
This gorgeous spot tends to be a hit with watersports fans, particularly surfers, not to mention it's also dog-friendly, and from July through to September there are lifeguards on patrol if you want to go and take a dip. There is also a cafe serving up some drinks and snacks although it can be closed when it's off season, as well as a variety of beach huts that can be hired.
There are plenty of scenic walks to enjoy in the area (Getty Images)Meanwhile little explorers may also want to go in search of the hermit crabs that can be spotted in the rock pools, while birdwatchers won't be disappointed thanks to the thousands of nesting birds at the nearby St Abbs Head Nature Reserve.

Over on Tripadvisor visitors have been quick to praise the beach for its family-friendly facilities and relaxed vibe. One happy holidaymaker wrote: "A lovely sandy beach, we walked along and watched the waves breaking following it round to the headland and another pebbly beach. The colourful beach huts made a lovely sight. It was out of season so the cafe was closed."
Another added: "Beautiful clean beach. Felt very safe to let the children body board and rock pool. Lovely little independent cafe serving hot drinks and cakes. Accessible toilets. We booked a surfing lesson at the local shop St Vedas Surf where you can also hire wetsuits. Fabulous lesson from the surf instructor. We will definitely visit again."
While the beach does get busier during the summer months, a number of visitors noted that it's still never crowded with plenty of space to lay out a towel or just enjoy the views as part of a wider walk.
The beach isn't the only place that Coldingham has to offer. The village has some scenic strolls that you won't want to miss including historic landmarks such as the Coldingham Priory and Fast Castle ruins. Visit Scotland recommends walking from Coldingham to St Abbs along the Creel Path for "more breathtaking wildlife and crystal-clear seas".
Then of course the village's proximity to Edinburgh - it takes just over an hour by train - means you could easily enjoy a day out before heading back to the Scottish capital.
