A mum has shared her quick and easy mattress cleaning hack that helps remove unsightly stains - and it costs as little as £1.50.

While it's routine to wash bedding on a regular basis, our mattresses can often be neglected - not least because you can't just throw them in the washing machine. But they can get just as dirty, whether through sweat, spillages and even fake tan.

Thankfully, a savvy mum has shared her top tip for getting rid of those pesky stains, and you need just three ingredients.

Taking to Instagram, Vicki Collis, who posts home tips on her page @our_little_doer_upper, shared a video explaining how she got a stain on her mattress while cleaning up her daughter's spilt milk.

She wrote in the caption: "The hack you didn't know you needed! Ada spilt her milk in our bed, and whilst trying to dry it we made a huge stain.

"I thought there was no way this would come out, but came across this mattress-cleaning hack so gave it a go. Wow, is all I can say! Game changer! Works on all stains and is super easy to do!"

All you need to make the hack work is three ingredients - bicarbonate of soda, white vinegar, and liquid soap. You can pick up white vinegar for 35p from Tesco , while bicarb is 65p from the same supermarket, and washing up liquid is 69p , although can be bought for as little as 55p from Asda . This means that in total, you can buy all the items needed for this hack for around £1.50.

Rather than using measures, simply mix the three things together until they make a paste. Then, use a cloth to rub it on the stain. "Let it dry and vacuum off the bicarb mixture, and ta da!" Vicki told her followers.

"Oh fantastic hack!" one enthused, while a second echoed: "This is fab!" A third joked: "I need to try this on my daughter's bed…blooming fake tan!"

It comes after mattress gurus at WinstonsBeds confirmed you should be changing your bed sheets every week in order to avoid a build-up of dead skin, grime and breakouts on your skin.

They shared five things that can happen if you don't put on fresh bedding every week - and some of them are grim! For example, according to the pros, when you fail to wash your bedding, dead skin cells from your body begin to build up on the sheets. Dust mites feed off of dead skin cells making this the perfect environment for them to thrive. See the rest of the list here.
