Conor McGregor has been backed to make a ground-breaking return in September that could see him fight for another UFC world title.

The UFC has been rumoured to add a 165lb division for years but the promotion are yet to introduce the weight class. Fans are now convinced the division will be added later this year after UFC lightweight Rafael Fiziev told Ushatayka: "This is not a rumour, this is already for sure as far as I know.

"I heard that this is already true and even they have already fought, they even identified something there." UFC boss Dana White said McGregor's comeback fight against Michael Chandler is now likely to take place in autumn. This puts the Irishman in line to fight at the promotion's first event at the Sphere in Las Vegas, a stunning $2.3billion venue that opened its doors last September.

White plans on being the first major sports organisation to host an event at the Sphere and promised fans a once-in-a-lifetime experience. "We'll be the first sporting event to ever do it because you know that I'm gonna spend the money and I'm gonna do it right," White told ESPN. "When I say that I'm gonna deliver something, I'm gonna deliver."

The event that will be held at the Sphere, UFC 306, takes place on September 16 and will celebrate Mexican Independence Day. McGregor could even be set for an opponent switch for his comeback as familiar foe Nate Diaz wants in on the mega-event. “I’ll be here, f*** [UFC] 300,” Diaz wrote.

“McGregor vs Diaz 3 in the Sphere hopefully," one fan wrote. "McGregor vs Diaz announcement would break MMA Twitter," a second user added. "McGregor vs Diaz for 306? That would be way better than Chandler vs McGregor," a third comment read. "If McGregor comes back at fights Diaz at the Sphere, that would be so sick," a final user wrote.

UFC lightweight fighters looking to move up a weight class have to pile on a considerable 15lb, which is more than the usual 10lb that separates each division. McGregor has fought at three different weight classes in the UFC and has even teased a move up to middleweight in the future.
