Piers Morgan raises concern about Prince William with six word comment

Piers Morgan has raised a few eyebrows with his latest commentary on the royal family.

The former Good Morning Britain presenter, 58, has urged Buckingham Palace to offer "more clarity" on Prince William's last-minute decision to pull out of a public event on Tuesday. Piers, who recently announced his plans to become a YouTuber, called William's mysterious cancellation "very strange, and rather concerning."

The Duke of Cambridge was scheduled to attend a memorial service at Windsor Castle for his godfather, the late King Constantine of Greece. However, he cancelled his appearance just an hour before the service was set to start - despite his name being printed on the order of service.

It was later announced by Buckingham Palace that Lady Gabriella Windsor’s husband Thomas Kingston had died at the age of 45, but it has been confirmed Kingston's death is not the reason for William's puzzling schedule shake up. Taking to Twitter (X) on Tuesday night, TalkTV broadcaster Piers shared his thoughts on the matter as conspiracy theories continued to flood the internet.

"The Prince of Wales is no longer attending the memorial service this morning for his godfather King Constantine of Greece. Prince William's office will not say why, other than it's a 'personal matter'. They did say Kate continues to be 'doing well'," a tweet by journalist Chris Ship quoted by Piers read. "Very strange, and rather concerning," Morgan then told his followers, before adding: "The Palace should offer more clarity."

As it was confirmed William did not miss his godfather's memorial service due to the death of Kingston - who was the husband of the daughter of Queen Elizabeth's cousin - Morgan then mused: "So, what could be more important than paying respects to his Godfather?" He then sparked some concern as he added the theory: "It can't be a small thing."

"With the current health issues with Kate and Charles, this will surely lead to a lot of speculation," one Twitter (X) user wrote in the replies to Morgan's post on Tuesday, with another adding: "Something definitely isn't right.. .only time will tell... we keep observing." A third argued: "I take your point Piers, but William is possibly still adjusting to being next in line, plus he has a wife and children to worry about, so perhaps we can cut him a bit of slack."

Speaking about the drama on TalkTV on Tuesday, Sarah Hewson, the royal editor for the channel, shared her thoughts with Kevin O'Sullivan and Alex Phillips. She said of William's sudden sick day: "They don't like to let people down at the last minute, and they certainly wouldn't have wanted that public announcement that he'd had to pull out, either because of the questions it stands to raise."

Kensington Palace confirmed on Tuesday morning that Prince William would not attending due to a personal matter, but did not provide further details. Given the recent health concerns of King Charles and Kate, any changes in the Royal Family's public appearances are bound to draw attention.

A spokesperson from Kensington Palace reassured everyone that Kate, a mum-of-three, is doing well at home and there's no need for concern. "There's been some reassurance from Kensington Palace that Kate continues to do well at home, and I think the general mood music is this is not a cause for alarm or panic. But obviously when you see a member of the Royal Family pulling out of a big event like this, you do start to question why."

Chatting about King Charles and the rest of the Royals, Hewson said: "The King was at Windsor Castle before this event, but he left. He's now returned to Clarence House. He wasn't expected to attend a big event like this, given the treatment that he's undergoing for his cancer at the moment."

"But we see the Queen, Camilla, leading the Royal Family to St George's Chapel for this ceremony. Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson also walking down the hill into St George's Chapel, because it's not an official state event, it is a private family event. He, we understand, was invited as a member of the British Royal Family by the Greek Royal Family."

"When Prince William pulls out - and this was his godfather, the second cousin of the King, a close friend of the King, first cousin once removed of Prince Phillip. He was his sailing partner. There are very good close ties between these two families, and members of the Royal Family don't like to pull out. They don't like to let people down at the last minute, and they certainly wouldn't have wanted that public announcement that he'd had to pull out, either because of the questions it stands to raise."
