NFL Draft prospect Drake Maye has been training with legendary quarterback Philip Rivers. The former San Diego/Los Angeles Charger and Indianapolis Colts star is acting as a mentor to Maye as he prepares to transition from college to the NFL.

Maye is seen as one of the best talents in college football over the last two years. He's considered a generational prospect and one of the best quarterbacks to enter the draft along with USC's Caleb Williams - with the two said to be contending for the top spot.

In a chat with ESPN's Adam Schefter, Maye said: "He's one of the best, he reminds me of my brothers. He loves to compete. We're out there, we're throwing six step-outs, a 10-yard drill throwing into the net, and he retired two or three years ago but he still won the competition.

"So he's just a competitor. Not only that, he's just one of the guys. Gets along with people so well and knows the game. I think the biggest thing about Phil is he stayed healthy for so long in his career. Such a long career - so I just pick his brain on how he stayed healthy. He's a big dude like me so just trying to kind of find ways to relate to him."

Maye shared that Rivers has given him tips on how to stay fit and prepare for games over a long period - something Rivers did brilliantly, playing every game from 2006 to 2021.

In 2022, Maye, a redshirt sophomore, had an amazing season with UNC, leading the team to an 8-4 record and proving himself as one of the top prospects in the draft along with Williams. However, both Williams and Maye found it hard to repeat their success this past season - raising some doubts about both prospects.

That said, Williams and Maye are still widely considered the top two players to be picked, with the Washington Commanders holding the No. 2 pick after the Chicago Bears at No. 1. The Bears reportedly haven't decided whether or not they want to trade down.

Despite his promising potential, recent reports have suggested that Maye could drop down the draft board as Will Levis did last year. NFL draft analyst Merril Hoge also warned teams away from drafting Maye this past week, suggesting that 'he would not touch him in the first round'.
