The Chase star answers burning questions about show jackpot money
The Chase star Darragh Ennis has opened up about the prize money that appears on the show as he was overwhelmed by fans all asking the same question.
The 43-year-old brain box - better known by his Chaser name ‘The Menace’ - was fielding questions from fans during a question and answer session online. The Irish gameshow star has appeared on The Chase since joining the line-up of intimidating general knowledge experts in 2020 - having appeared on the show as a contestant three years earlier.
Fans of the ITV daytime quiz show will know that a panel of contestants answer general knowledge questions to bank a cash prize. They then have to defeat one of the chasers in each round to stay in the game, leading to a final round where they must answer as many questions as possible and then the Chaser will try to answer an equal amount at the same time.
At the end of the show, the contestants can often have a jackpot worth tens of thousands of pounds up for grabs - only for the chasers to snatch the funds away by defeating them. Darragh was asked about this prize fund by a number of fans so took to social media to give an answer once and for all.

Do we win that money?’. I wish we did, I really wish we did. I’d be a lot better off, believe me, but no, we don’t.” He continued: “The money isn’t actually real until someone wins, it's just numbers on a screen until it’s won, so it just disappears. People also like to ask me a lot how much chasers get paid, so I finally thought I’ll just tell you. This is exactly how much it is.”

After sharing his insights, Darragh was inundated with more comments, questions and remarks - with one fan musing: “I used to think the Chasers got paid like 30k every episode,” to which he replied with a laughing emoji.
Fellow chaser Anne Hegerty, 65 - better known as The Governess - has previously opened up about the money she and her co-stars make via the popular ITV show. She told Lewis Nicholls' YouTube show: "The Chasers and Bradley get paid a flat fee for which I'm being paid and the other Chasers aren't and that applies to all of us. If you're going to divide the shows by six rather than five, then do the maths. And it's excellent if it means we get a bigger order of shows, then everyone's money goes up.
"The problem is that Bradley is so in demand, is so good. He's so superb at everything he does and he can do so many things. And so of course he's massively in demand. And there's about 10 other things he's doing besides the daytime Chase."
