Meghan made 'veiled swipe' at royals with pointed parting shot
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may have been brutally axed from their multi-million dollar podcast deal with Spotify, but that didn't stop them having the last word.
Fans won't have to wait long for another podcast series featuring Meghan now that she's signed a brand new deal with the network Lemonada to create a new podcast. Her previous podcast on Spotify called Archetypes, ran for 12 episodes and saw her chat with different, mainly female, celebrities including tennis icon Serena Williams, legendary singer Mariah Carey, and socialite Paris Hilton.
However, in the final episode of the show, which aimed to explore "labels that try to hold women back", Meghan talked to male guests TV producer Andy Cohen, movie director Judd Apatow and comedian Trevor Noah. And as she signed off from the last of the 12 episodes, she told listeners how it had made her "feel seen".
And she finally ended the series with a pointed quote that many believed was a dig at the royal life she left behind - and the sacrifices she believed she made. The Duchess concluded and said: "I feel seen, I had never considered that in using my voice I would feel seen, but I do.
"Many moons ago I heard a quote that I will share with you today because as we talk about labels, tropes and boxes that some may try to squeeze you into and roles and stereotypes that are attributed to you that don't quite fit the full person that you are, this 'what didn't you do to bury me? But you forgot that I was a seed'.
Kate Middleton swears by £19.99 rosehip oil that helps 'reduce wrinkles & scars'She added: "To that point my friend, keep growing and I'll see you on the flipside. As ever, I'm Meghan." And according to royal expert and biographer Phil Dampier, the quote was aimed at the royals. He told The Sun: "I'm sure that it was a veiled reference to the restrictions of the Royal Family. It's a clever way of doing it because she's not directly saying something but people can still read into it what they like. Then if anyone takes offence she can say 'oh I didn't mean it like that.'"
It is unknown when Meghan's new Lemonada podcast will be available to listen to. However, in a statement earlier this month, she said: "I'm proud to now be able to share that I am joining the brilliant team at Lemonada to continue my love of podcasting. Being able to support a female-founded company with a roster of thought-provoking and highly entertaining podcasts is a fantastic way to kick off 2024.
She went on: "Our plan to re-release Archetypes so that more people can now have access to it, as well as launching a dynamic new podcast are well in the works. I’m so eager to be able to share it soon, and am overjoyed to be joining the Lemonada family."
Meghan's podcast Archetypes was suddenly dropped by Spotify, with the Sussexes labelled as "grifters" by an executive at the streaming platform. The couple were brutally described as "f***ing grifters" by top Spotify executive Bill Simmons, who works as head of podcast innovation and monetisation at the streaming service.
When the couple departed, Mr Simmons hit out at the Sussexes in an episode of his own podcast, saying: "The f***ing grifters. That's the podcast we should have launched with them." At the time, Bill added: "I've got to get drunk one night and tell the story of the Zoom I had with Harry to try and help him with a podcast idea. It's one of my best stories."
