There's nothing more satisfying than going into the hair salon with tired-looking tresses and coming out feeling like a superstar. But while it may be a fun experience for the customer, a hairdresser has revealed what hairstylists really think when you sit in a salon chair.

Haircare expert Emily Rose Pytel says she has experienced some major 'icks' at work. The young professional stirred up some controversy on TikTok recently when she said on her account @emilyyyroses that "super dirty hair" is one of the worst things that hairstylists see from their clients.

"We don't want to touch your dirty hair but it's also not good for your colour, it doesn't take as well," she explained. "When a client comes to me with super dirty hair, just no," she added.

Clarifying what she meant on Daily Blast Live, Emily said she is referencing the people who come in after not washing their hair for around 10 days, but hair not washed for three or four days is acceptable.

Emily also said it is "awkward for everybody" when a client looks her in the eyes while she is washing their hair - she suggests clients should shut their eyes if they are unsure what to do. She also said it can be highly frustrating when her customers keep looking back at the mirror when they have turned their chair around.

But one 'ick' that "really gets her" is when customers don't turn up on time, but walk in with a coffee. She added: "When you show up late but you have a coffee in your hand and don’t have one for us. We love coffee too and we need the caffeine to do your hair."

After the video went viral, a number of people were shocked by what she had to say - particularly when it comes to dirty hair. One individual said: "I was always told to get your hair coloured with dirty hair."

"Once my hair was filthy and I asked my stylist last time and she said day old hair is only for styling, otherwise come with it clean," wrote another. "'I am not going to wash my hair to come in for a hair appointment," one commented.

"Waitttttt I was always told to get your hair coloured with dirty hair?," questioned another. Another added: "We're paying more than enough for a service without the expectation of bringing a coffee for a hairdresser."
