Meghan employs the use of one powerful action to demonstrate to the world that Prince Harry "is hers"

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's tactile displays of affection give clues about the dynamics in the relationship, an expert has claimed.

Meghan Markle, 42, and 39-year-old Prince Harry are known for often holding hands - a clear breakaway from the usual formality we see in Royal relationships. Although there is no official royal protocol against it, Prince William and Princess Kate are very rarely seen holding hands or showing any public displays of affection.

The Sussexes are clearly more comfortable being tactile in public and now a body language expert has explained the meaning behind Meghan and Harry’s switch between different hand-holding techniques. Inbaal Honigman has described how the different tactile styles are telling of changing dynamics in their relationship, and how one style specifically is the Duchess’s way of showing the world “this man is hers”.

Speaking to The Express, Honigman revealed that the couple’s different ways of holding hands send out different signals. He divided Meghan and Harry’s hand-holding into three distinct types; interlocking fingers, butterfly hand contact, and the clamshell.

According to Honigman, when the couple are “interlocking fingers” with their palms touching, they are showing the world how close and happy they are together. He said: "This is a powerful hold that reassures each partner that the other one has got their back. It's a trusting, loving, passionate way of holding hands."

He also claims that when the couple uses the butterfly technique, a more gentle handhold, it shows they trust each other as they are not trying to control one another with their hands. The expert went on to explain the meaning behind the clamshell hold - where someone uses both hands to hold one of their partner’s hands - saying it shows who is dominant in the relationship.

Hongiman explained: "It's a gesture that is in turn both dominant and submissive - dominant because it's blunt and it shows the world that this man is hers!" He went on to add that Harry and Meghan often mix up their hand-holding position, which he claims shows “they're a united couple, the two of them against the world, and their bond is unbreakable.”
