Here, we take a look at the year ahead to the new TV shows coming to Sky in 2024.

Mary & George

This “audacious historical psychodrama” centres on a treacherous mother and son who schemed, seduced and killed to conquer the Court of England and the bed of its King. It is inspired by the true story of Mary Villiers (Julianne Moore), who moulded her beautiful and charismatic son, George (Nicholas Galitzine), to seduce King James VI of Scotland and I of England (Tony Curran) and become his all-powerful lover.

The pair rose from humble beginnings as they schemed to become the richest, most titled and influential players the English court had ever seen, and the King’s most trusted advisors. And with England’s place on the world stage under threat from a Spanish invasion and rioters taking to the streets to denounce the King, the stakes could not have been higher.

Prepared to stop at nothing and armed with her ruthless political steel, Mary married her way up the ranks, bribed politicians, colluded with criminals and clawed her way into the heart of the Establishment, making it her own.

Mary & George will premiere on Sky Atlantic on March 5.

The Regime

This darkly comedic six-part series tells the story of life within the walls of a modern authoritarian regime as it begins to unravel. After not leaving the palace for quite some time, Chancellor Elena Vernham (Kate Winslet) has grown increasingly paranoid and unstable when she turns to a volatile soldier, Herbert Zubak (Matthias Schoenaerts), as an unlikely confidant.

As Zubak’s influence over the chancellor continues to grow, Elena’s attempts to expand her power eventually result in both the palace and the country fracturing around her.

The Regime will premiere on Sky Atlantic April 8.

The Tattooist of Auschwitz

This limited series tells the story of Slovakian Jew Lali (Jonah Hauer-King), who was deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp in 1942. Shortly after arrival, Lali was made one of the Tätowierer (tattooists), charged to ink identification numbers onto fellow prisoners’ arms.

One day, he met Gita (Anna Próchniak) while tattooing her prisoner number on her arm, leading to a love that defies the horrors around them. Under constant guard from a volatile Nazi SS officer Baretzki (Jonas Nay), Lali and Gita became determined to keep each other alive.

Around 60 years later and now in his 80s, Lali (Harvey Keitel) meets aspiring writer Heather Morris (Melanie Lynskey). Recently widowed, Lali found the courage to tell the world his story and in recounting his past finally confront the traumatic ghosts of his youth while reliving memories of falling in love in the darkest of places.

The Tattooist of Auschwitz will premiere on Sky Atlantic on May 2.

Mr Bigstuff

This Sky Original comedy explores broken families, brotherhood, manhood and carpet sales. It tells the story of two estranged brothers; Glen (Ryan Sampson) a nervy perfectionist and carpet salesman striving to live the suburban ideal and Lee (Danny Dyer), an alpha male with a prescription drug addiction and biscuit tin full of his Dad’s ashes.

In the six-part series, Glen and his fiancée Kirsty (Harriet Webb) share a perfect, perfectly mundane life together. Sure, Glen’s got crippling erectile dysfunction and Kirsty has a secret shoplifting habit, but they’re happy. That is until Lee comes crashing into their lives, whilst on the run from a past that’s quickly catching up with him.

The trio are forced together – a perfectionist, a fantasist and an anarchist all living under the same roof in an Essex cul-de-sac – and it’s not long before their ‘perfect’ lives start to unravel faster than the weave of a cheap carpet.

Mr Bigstuff will premiere on Sky Comedy this Spring.

The Sympathizer

Robert Downey Jr. plays multiple roles in HBO’s espionage thriller and cross-culture satire. Based on Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer-winning novel of the same name, The Sympathizer follows the struggles of a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy during the final days of the Vietnam War and his resulting exile in the United States.

The Sympathizer will premiere on Sky Atlantic.

The Day of the Jackal

This contemporary reimagining of the iconic thriller stars Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne as The Jackal, an unrivalled and highly elusive lone assassin, and No Time to Die’s Lashana Lynch as Bianca, a tenacious MI6 agent in a relentless, global pursuit to catch him. The 10-part thriller is based on Frederick Forsyth’s seminal novel and its 1973 film adaptation.

While remaining true to the DNA of the original, this new drama will delve deeper into the chameleon like ‘anti-hero’ at the heart of the story, in a high octane, cinematic, globetrotting 'cat and mouse' thriller, set amidst the turbulent geo-political landscape of our time. The Day of the Jackal is written and adapted by Top Boy creator and writer Ronan Bennett, with award-winning Game of Thrones, Luther and Boardwalk Empire director Brian Kirk serving as lead director.

The Day of the Jackal will premiere on Sky Atlantic.

House of the Dragon season two

Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood and set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon tells the story of House Targaryen. The eight-part second season sees returning cast including Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans.

House of the Dragon season two will premiere in Summer on Sky Atlantic.

Rhiannon doesn’t make much of an impression – people walk past her in the street without a second glance.

She’s continually overlooked for a promotion at work, the guy she likes won’t commit, and her dad is very sick. Then everything in her life turns upside down as she’s pushed over the edge and loses control.

Suddenly the wallflower is gone, and in its place is a young woman capable of anything. Rhiannon’s life transforms as she steps into a new, intoxicating power, but can she keep her killer secret?

Sweetpea will premiere on Sky Atlantic.

The six-part series stars Christina Hendricks as Wendy Patterson, a local girl done good as a hot-shot television producer, and Paddy Considine as Drumban’s local doctor and pillar of the community Seamus Proctor.

Small Town, Big Story will premiere in Autumn on Sky Max.

Funny Woman season two

Based on Nick Hornby’s novel, Funny Woman follows Barbara (Gemma Arterton), a young working class woman from Blackpool who realised her dream to become a TV comedy star. In series two, she finds out that ‘having a voice’ doesn’t mean it will be heard and that fame is a fickle friend.

Fed up with being the comic muse in old school comedy shows, Sophie tries her hand at arthouse cinema hoping it will be more progressive – it isn’t. Undeterred, Sophie decides to create her own comedy show where she can tell authentic stories in all their messy and hilarious glory.
