Liam Gallagher reveals what helped bring Oasis legend and John Squire together
Rockers Liam Gallagher and John Squire are putting their best foot forward when it comes to friendship… and music.
The pair have told how they first became friends when Liam started asking John about his shoes. And now the Oasis frontman and Stone Roses guitarist have collaborated on an album, which is out on Friday.
Liam predicts that fans of the two iconic bands will “f***ing love” the album, simply called Liam Gallagher John Squire. And if they do, they will have the pair’s passion for shoes to thank. John admitted: “Footwear brought us together. Every time I’ve run into Liam since, he’s had some question about my shoes.”
The rockers first met while they were working on albums with their old bands in Monmouth, near Cardiff, and Liam asked John about the shoes he wore in the photo on the back of The Stone Roses album. Liam told a magazine: “I remember watching the video for the Roses’ Fools Gold and thinking, ‘Squire’s got Vans on’. The black slip-ons. That was a big moment. Get a pair of Vans, then.”
John also took a shine to the Clarks Caravans Liam wore when they rehearsed for Knebworth in 2022.
