An Aldi shopper has shared their hack for slowing down the store's notoriously fast checkout staff - but it's left some fellow shoppers outraged.

Aldi is renowned for its fast-moving staff on the tills, so much so that customers frequently share their methods for reducing the anxiety-inducing speed at which they scan items.

But one person has totally divided the public after sharing their approach, so much so that some are even suggesting they should be banned from the supermarket.

The customer shared a photo on an Aldi Facebook group detailing their hack; individual items spaced far apart out all the way down the conveyor belt to force checkout staff to wait for them to slowly reach the till before they can scan them through.

It was captioned, "In your face Aldi. Just so we got time to pack" and really divided opinion in the comments below, with people torn over whether the tactic was genius or infuriating.

One person responded by saying: "People like you packing their bag at the register is so annoying and selfish. Try packing at the bench like everyone else," as reported by News.com.au.

Another snapped back: "If you can't handle it, go to Woolies or Coles OR actually use the bench supplied for packing which is away from the checkout." And a third added: "I despise when people do this."

But not everyone was so critical, with some thanking them for sharing the tip and suggesting they would try it themselves next time they visit the shop. One wrote: "Ohhhh I love it! Packing at Aldi should be an Olympic sport!" A second said: "Round of applause – this is genius."

However, two members of the group who said they work at Aldi revealed that it's a trick many customers try to employ - and staff have their own methods to overcome it.

One staff member replied: "I have customers do this, I just put my arm up to move the belt, let it all build up then start scanning."

And another said they do exactly the same, writing: "When I worked at Aldi and people did this, I would hold the first item back from the sensor with my arm until everything piled up."

It comes after one shopper went viral after sharing her Aldi hack. The mum explained how she uses two large plastic tubs with handles to hold her groceries when she visits the store. She wrote: "I know there are the Aldi hanging bags for when we shop but I’ve been using these tubs for a couple of years now and love them.

"They fit perfectly into the trolley and so easy to get in and out of the car. If they're a bit heavy I just put some of the goodies into the other while putting the first into the boot."

The mum also had tips for maximising space in the tubs. "I put the heaviest items in the front tub so that they come out first onto the belt and then I distribute the heavy things evenly into the two tubs after they've been swiped through the register," she explained. "You'll be surprised how much you can fit into them."

The tip has been praised by other shoppers online. "What a brilliant idea. Off to buy some tubs tomorrow," one person commented. "That's so smart, why haven't I thought of that?" another remarked. Some also shared their own creative solutions. One said: "I do similar sometimes. Just have the plastic tub in my boot and pack items from the trolley into the tub in the boot."
