Woman's burned body found on football pitch as urgent police probe launched
An urgent investigation has been launched by police after a woman's burned body was found on a football pitch in Motherwell.
Grim remains of the unidentified person, reported locally to be a female, were discovered by a member of the public with the alarm being raised around 9am on Saturday morning.
Police said the death is being treated as "unexplained" and enquiries are ongoing.
Officers are currently on the scene in the Muirhouse area of the Scottish town. Crews from the Scottish Fire and Rescue service were also spotted in attendance, reports the Daily Record.
A police spokesperson said: “Around 9am on Saturday, 24 February, 2024 a body was discovered in the Margaret Drive area of Motherwell. Officers are at the scene. The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing.”
