Strictly Come Dancing's Amy Dowden shares joyous news following cancer treatment

Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden revealed there is 'no evidence of the disease' as she shared a delightful health update following her cancer treatment.

The professional dancer, 33, was rushed to hospital last week as her family stayed by her side during the tough time. She received care in the respiratory unit and her husband Ben "spent hours next to [her] bed" while she slept. Amy took to her Instagram following her hospital stay and revealed she was "feeling much better now".

Amy has been open about her breast cancer diagnosis and previously discussed how she found a lump in her breast one day before her honeymoon with her husband Ben. She had a mastectomy after being told she had breast cancer in May 2023 and then was told by doctors that she had secondary cancer.

She has been sharing her story, including her chemotherapy side effects and personal plans, on social media and recently took to her page to share the incredible news that doctors have told her there is 'no evidence of disease'.

Along with a snap of her beaming with joy with her arms in the air, she said: "NO EVIDENCE OF DISEASE! Words I dreamed of! My biggest accomplishment yet! I won’t be getting the all-clear for 5 years especially with a hormone fed cancer. But it was all worth it. Words I never thought I’d hear at one point.

"So grateful for all the care I received and continue to have. To my husband, family and friends who supported me unconditionally and to you guys! Thank you! I will still need a monthly injection for 5 years and regular check ups. Chemo and this past year has certainly took its toll on my body both physically and mentally, so I’ll be taking the next few months to heal and recover."

Amy continued: "I have so much to strive and live for, and so grateful for another chance at life! Something I know not all get. I certainly see life differently and my life has changed forever! Cancer affects too many so I will continue to do all I can to raise awareness and make sure I get as many as I can to #checkthemselves.

"It’s time to look ahead after what’s been the toughest year, and one I certainly didn’t expect!" Her friends and fans rushed to the comment section to congratulate her on the news. Gemma Atkinson said: "Amazing news Amy," while Clara Amfo posted: "FANTASTIC news!"

Fellow Strictly star Dianne Buswell commented: "Best news to come this year and it’s just the begging of the good stuff ! i told you this is your year my girl and i am cheering you on with every bone in my body GO AMY you super star." Last week, Amy revealed she was taken to the hospital and posted a snap of herself in a hospital gown.

She wrote: "So last week didn't exactly go to plan! Feeling much better now and still taking it easy. But can't thank the NHS and the care I received on respiratory unit enough! Also to my family and Ben of course. Always dropping everything and spending endless hours next to my bed whilst I mainly slept. Feeling much better and thanks for the many messages after going quiet! Off to the oncology unit today for my monthly injection (missed it last week with being poorly). How is everyone? The sun is shining and I certainly can't wait for spring."

After leaving the hospital, she treated herself to a minibreak and told fans about 'what a difference a week makes'. Her father was delighted she was feeling better and said: "So happy seeing you look so well after last week. These photos remind me of the fabulous Christmas we all had there."

The dancer once spoke about the moment she discovered a lump in her breast before her honeymoon. "I was in the shower and I felt this hard lump in my right breast. I was in shock; I checked again," she told HELLO! Magazine. The lump grew while she was away and she went to see her GP before being sent for an emergency referral.

It was then she was suddenly diagnosed with aggressive stage three breast cancer. "You just don't ever think it's going to happen to you. I hadn't thought it was possible to get breast cancer at my age," she continued, explaining that her mum had breast cancer in her fifties.

She quickly underwent a mastectomy and surgeons removed three tumours and further cancer specks, plus some lymph nodes from her right breast. However, doctors soon discovered a second type of breast cancer in the tissue they removed, plus specks in her other breast.

The star was advised to have chemotherapy, but her first reaction was to refuse it. "I thought that's Strictly with a partner wiped out, that's my hair gone, that's my life gone. I was like, I don't want to do that," she told the Mirror. After a series of ups and downs, she finally rang the chemotherapy bell and shared the news with fans.
