Dancing On Ice's Oti Mabuse suffering with 'exhaustion' amid motherhood journey

Oti Mabuse has motherhood as the most ‘exhausting’ experience of her life - but couldn’t be happier with her bundle of joy.

The 33-year-old Dancing On Ice judge became a first time mum last year as she welcomed a daughter with her 41-year-old professional dancer husband Marius Iepure. While Oti and Marius have been very private about their daughter - refusing to reveal her name and also keeping her arrival secret for months after she was born - the former Striclty star has shared details of her experience as a mum.

On Thursday, Oti was a guest on ITV’s daytime show This Morning where she opened up about motherhood. She sat alongside hosts Josie Gibson, 38, and Craig Doyle, 53, and explained how much her bundle of joy has changed her life.

Oti said: “It's a new level of exhaustion that you learn to work with but it is the most amazing thing ever what you wake up to in the morning and you see your little babies face. And you are just like wow, I absolutely love you. I love motherhood, I love how it feels, I love that just new feeling of what I need to become to be strong for you and the gratitude that I have to actually have a baby girl.”

Oti had a difficult birth as she developed sepsis meaning her daughter - who as born two months early - was at risk of being infected when she was born. She was immediately taken away for specialist care. Discussing the difficult birth, Oti said: “She was in the NICU for about six weeks, she came two months early, which was totally unexpected.

“And actually I gave birth at the UCLH, it was so amazing the NHS and I've said this so many times. I don't usually get sick so I'm never usually in hospital and so I never really have to use the NHS that much but then I really needed them and they were incredible. We were taken care of so much.”

It’s not the first time Oti has opened up about becoming a mum. She previously shared details of the nerve-racking birth with the Happy Mum Happy Baby Podcast. She said: “She was very premature, she came really, really early - unexpected premature which was a big, big shock.

“Going through that emotional trauma that you go through when you have a premature baby, and then being in hospital with the little one for six weeks and then finally coming out and having her home with friends and family over Christmas was really nice.” Indeed, it wasn’t until Christmas that Oti and Marius revealed they had become parents.

The proud couple posed for adorable family photos in matching pyjamas while casually including their baby girl and also including their dog. They wrote at the time: “Merry Christmas... Wishing you all a wonderful festive season ... and special memories with loved ones.”
