Erik ten Hag will meet with Manchester United bosses for talks over his Old Trafford future at the end of the season.

The Dutch manager's position has come under scrutiny following a difficult start to the 2023/24 season. However, six wins out of seven has seen United return to top-four contention.

Ten Hag's current contract is set to expire in 2025 with discussions yet to take place over extending the deal. Mirror Football understands that new Man United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe intends to wait until the end of the season before making a decision on his manager who earns £9million-a-year.

The INEOS founder wants to take advantage of new expertise arriving at the club and intends to consult with director Sir Dave Brailsford, incoming CEO Omar Berrada and prospective sporting director Dan Ashworth. The latter is currently on gardening leave from Newcastle United.

Ten Hag will have the remainder of the term to prove to Ratcliffe that he can work within the club's new hierarchy and bring success back to the 13-time Premier League champions. The 54-year-old United boss will in turn be able to experience what it is like working under a new regime following Ratcliffe's purchase of 27.7 per cent of the club.

Ratcliffe stopped short of backing Ten Hag after the approval of his investment but acknowledged the former Ajax coach has worked in a failing environment. Ratcliffe said: "I'm not going to comment on Erik ten Hag, because it would be inappropriate to do that.

"But if you look at the 11 years that have gone since (former United chief executive) David Gill and Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down, there have been a whole series of coaches, some of which were very good. And none of them were successful, or survived for very long.

"And you can't blame all the coaches. The only conclusion you can draw is that the environment in which they were working, didn't work.”

In addition to a club record 14 losses in the opening half of the season, Ten Hag has endured discipline problems with Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford. The Manchester United boss could yet add the FA Cup to his collection after guiding the club to a Carabao Cup win last term and the Red Devils remain five points behind Aston Villa who sit fourth in the Premier League.
