Paloma Faith has praised Alison Hammond and opened up about their emotional exchange.

Last month, the pop songstress - who has just released the official Red Nose Day single - appeared on This Morning to discuss her latest album, The Glorification of Sadness. But during her interview, the 42-year-old opened up about the breakdown of her relationship with Leyman Lahcine, the father of her two young children.

During the candid admission, Paloma explained she felt as though it was her "biggest failure" and felt guilty for "failing society and her children". But host Alison, 49, went on to comfort the singer and explained that she was far from a failure, adding: "This is life, people split up," before saying: "You might even find it's your biggest success."

Speaking about the touching moment, Paloma exclusively told the Mirror: "I just find her a real amazing breath of fresh air. She and I have similar qualities in that she's very honest and disarming, it felt amazing to be on the receiving end of it because quite often people say to me 'Oh you made me feel better', but not often do people do that to me.

"I felt really lucky that it was her on the couch that day and that she had the experience of being a bit further along in the same situation." Her latest record is perhaps the most vulnerable Paloma has ever been with her fans. But initially, she never saw the record being released and treated it as therapy.

"At the time when I was writing it, I didn't think of it becoming a commercial thing," she said, adding: "I was just writing for my own therapy. I did feel that I went through a bit of a mental breakdown during my break-up and I've not felt that displaced or lost, ever in my life.

"I think it was the thing that replanted or reanchored me, it was therapy. When the body of work started to take form, it felt a bit weird to put that into the world, it felt very private before. That's why I've called it The Glorification of Sadness because it was a commodification of my own life trauma, it's not something that I'm distanced from – it's genuine real life, there's kids involved, it's very sensitive."

Paloma, famed for her theatrics and powerful voice, added that she had been able to be more flippant with previous releases as they had been about her, whereas this time, it involves "more people who she cares about". "Including my ex-partner," she stated, before going on to say: "I feel so protective over [him] because we're still a family, even if it's changed shape."

Although she may be one of the biggest names in music, she couldn't quite believe she was asked if Enjoy Yourself could be the official Comic Relief single, in partnership with Amazon. Sharing her excitement, the talented songstress said: "It feels quite iconic, I've spent my whole life looking at Red Nose Day in awe, I've got so many childhood memories about it.

"All the people that used to be involved and associate with Red Nose Day are icons and now I'm like one of them! It's a surreal and arrived moment." She added: "I felt honoured to be asked, I was so shocked. My jaw-dropped to the floor, I hope it goes towards raising money, every little bit helps. I find my charity work and allyship with different causes a really important part of what I do. I hope it goes towards helping the poverty crisis."

This year's Red Nose range is available on Amazon now, with free One-Day Delivery for all customers. Paloma Faith's Enjoy Yourself (The Red Nose Day Edition) is out now via Amazon Music and other streaming platforms, in aid of Comic Relief.
