Paul Mescal admits 'it's bananas' as he's left starstruck by huge footballer
Paul Mescal's adorable response to seeing David Beckham has broken the internet.
The All Of Us Strangers star might be one of the most recognisable names at the moment but it doesn't mean he has accepted being around mega stars. During the 77th annual BAFTAs on Sunday, Paul was nominated for Best Supporting Actor but his actions on the red carpet have taken the internet by storm.
Paul, 28, has walked hundreds of red carpets alongside some of the biggest names in showbiz but the Irish-born star was left overwhelmed when he spotted David Beckham on Sunday night, admitting his mum wouldn't be able to cope.
In one amusing clip shared online, the Maynooth-born star spotted the Manchester United legend out of the corner of his eye and exclaimed: "Oh f**k!" He went on to add: "I just saw David Beckham and I said 'Oh f**k!' It's wild, my mum's going to lose her mind." During his interview with ITN, Paul spotted another star and quipped: "There's Margot Robbie, casually. What the hell is going on? Christ."
"What the hell is going on? It's just bananas," he went on to say to the reporter before asking: "Do you ever get used to it?" but when the reporter admitted they also get starstruck, Paul joked: "We're all just pretending that this is normal." But Beckham and Margot are not the only people who left Paul in a state of disbelief.
MLS side LAFC worth more than 14 Premier League sides after $1bn valuationWhen grilled on whether people are starstruck over him, he responded: "I met Sandra Hüller last night and lost my tiny mind. She's literally one of the greatest actors working today. She said very kind things and I disintegrated and wanted the ground to swallow me up."
But Paul hadn't "met a huge amount" of his fellow nominees and was baffled that Robert De Niro was nominated in the same category as him for his role in Killers of the Flower Moon, which he was blown away by. But Paul and Dune: Part Two actress Florence Pugh caught the attention of onlookers later in the evening.
After leaving a party at Covent Garden's Nomad Hotel past midnight, Florence, aged 28, moved on to have a blast at another gathering at Chiltern Firehouse till the crack of dawn. Joining her were other big names like Rosamund Pike, Lily James, Sacha Baron and Paul, with whom she now has rumoured dating ties.
This is not the first speculation of them being a couple, as they had been spotted sharing a pleasant dinner in New York just the previous week. According to a source who spoke to The Sun: "Florence and Paul move in the same circles and have been mates for some time. If their friendship moved into something more romantic no one would be surprised."
