Erik ten Hag set to imminently lose Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's final Man Utd recruit

Erik ten Hag is set to lose assistant Eric Ramsay, as MLS side Minnesota United near a deal to appoint the Manchester United coach as their new manager.

The Athletic report all parties are closing in on an agreement for the 32-year-old, who would become the youngest head coach in the division. Ramsay is seven years the junior of next youngest boss, Nick Cushing at New York City FC.

Minnesota have undertaken a lengthy search for a new head coach after they parted with the only boss of the side's short MLS history, Adrian Heath. They have been delayed in making an appointment due to the wait for Khaled El-Ahmad to arrive from Barnsley as new sporting director.

Ramsay, the youngest British coach to earn a UEFA Pro Licence, spent time with Shrewsbury Town's academy and first team and earnied a role in Chelsea's succesful youth set-up before joining Manchester United in 2021 under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

While the Norwegian boss was sacked and United have since seen Ralf Rangnick and Erik ten Hag in the Old Trafford hotseat, Ramsey has managed to retain a role.

The Dutch manager formed his own team upon his arrival from Ajax but retained the services of Ramsay, the final coach appointed by Solskjaer, as Barnsley displayed interest.

United were resistant to any such approach in 2022 as Ramsay had already established his importance. After arriving at the club to oversee United's set-pieces and technical skills, the assistant coach became more prominent as the likes of Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna departed to take their own crack at management.

In March 2023, Ramsay joined the Wales backroom team as an assistant coach in addition to his role with the Red Devils. United saw the role thatcould help him 'gain international experience and reflect his reputation as one of the brightest young coaches in the game'.

Minnesota are set to kick off their 2024 MLS season on Saturday away to Austin FC. Second team head coach Cameron Knowles is currently set to take charge.
