Paul Scholes has slammed “weird” Manchester United despite making it four Premier League wins on the bounce at Luton on Sunday.

The Red Devils made it four consecutive victories with their 2-1 success at Kenilworth Road on Sunday. It initially looked as though they were en route to a comprehensive win after Rasmus Hojlund scored twice in the opening 10 minutes.

United had a host of chances to add to their lead, only for Carlton Morris to reduce the deficit. From then on, Luton dominated large periods of the game and might have felt themselves unfortunate not to have earned at least a point.

Former Red Devil Scholes gave his verdict on the game and suggested that the Red Devils were equally deserving of a thumping victory, as well as a big defeat. Taking to social media, he wrote: “Weird team United… I reckon they could be the only team that could win 5-0 and get hammered.”

Funnily enough, Erik ten Hag agreed with Scholes’ assessment. He claimed that his side should have been more clinical with the chances created and wanted to see his side be more positive to keep their hosts at bay.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, the Dutchman said: "Fragile [at times], because we didn't take the chances, I think we should have scored many more goals. After 2-0 there were big chances for Rashford and Garnacho, it could have been 3-0, 4-0.

“We dropped too deep and we allowed them some crosses and a lot of shots and some chances. After half-time they of course upped the pressure. We missed some really massive chances and we should of scored and we know that.

“On the other hand, Luton Town have lost games this season, but only two times by more than two, so it is not easy here. Apart from last week their performances and their results are very good.

“The way we started was perfect and that's the way we want to do it, it was a perfect game plan but the only thing we didn't do is be more clinical in front of goal. We must score more goals because today we could have easily scored five goals."

Regardless of the manner of the victory, the Red Devils’ success has forced them back into contention for a Champions League place. They are now sixth in the table but just five points behind Tottenham - who lost to Wolves at the weekend.

Man United are back in action this Saturday as they welcome Fulham to Craven Cottage. They then take on Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup ahead of a showdown with Manchester City in early March.
