Owen says Nunez's 'insane' finish sums up why Liverpool star has to change
Michael Owen has claimed Darwin Nunez ’s “insane” goal against Brentford shows how he must adapt if he wants to become Liverpool's main man.
The Uruguayan hitman opened the scoring for the Reds against Brentford. He raced beyond the Bees backline and chipped home an impudent finish.
The strike took the 24-year-old’s record to 13 goals in all competitions this term - five of which have come in his last seven Premier League appearances. However, Owen still believes that the spectacular nature of his finish indicates that he still has plenty of work to do to simplify his game.
“That finish from Darwin Nunez yesterday was insane.” Owen posted on social media. “I can’t stop watching it. And I can’t begin to explain how difficult a skill that is. Moving at pace, the ball running away from you, being inside the box with no room for error.
“Incredible. BUT, it is also further proof that if he is to get closer to becoming the great player many people think he can be, he has to adapt his way of thinking.”

The former Liverpool star added: "I mean, to even consider that finish is madness. It’s a 1 in 10, 2 in 10 finish at best. Learning to slot, dink or go round the GK is a far more productive way to score and will increase his chances to 4 or 5 in 10, thus massively increasing his end return. I’m really not trying to rain on his parade as that goal was pure class. But I’d rather see it when Liverpool are 3-0 up, not at 0-0!”
Nunez's afternoon was cut short in west London however, after he picked up an issue and was substituted at half time. He was one of three players to pick up knocks, with Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones and Nunez all doubts for Luton in midweek and next weekend's Carabao Cup final vs Chelsea.

Giving an update on Nunez and the rest of his stricken stars, Jurgen Klopp said: “I think there was a knock on Curtis [Jones].
“It was a challenge with Diogo [Jota] as well and Darwin [Nunez] we are not sure if he has something or not, he felt something. We will see. It was never easy for us, at the moment it is fine. We have 57 points and in a few days play again.”
Despite the possibility of Nunez potentially being ruled out, Liverpool have been boosted by the return of Mo Salah. The Egyptian forward was injured on AFCON duty but returned to action with a goal against Brentford.
