Target store slides down hill in bizarre video as homeowners forced to evacuate
Video footage shows a massive Target store appearing to slide down a hill after it partially collapsed, with nearby homeowners evacuated from the area.
The building which housed a, had been closed for two weeks before demolition began on Friday. Video footage shows what’s been described as the building “crumbling away” and ” after nearby residents were urged to leave their homes. Target has now sent bulldozers to destroy the part of the store that has disintegrated, and drooped, split by a huge crack.
The chain has previously ensured its customers' safety is of the utmost importance after a landslip caused the structural integrity of the building to give way and utility works to act up. Target said: “The safety of our team, guests, and neighbours is our top priority, and we are continuing to work on our Barboursville store to address the recent land movement."

The mayor said the Gods are not smiling on this TargetTarget said: “Starting this week, we will be removing a damaged portion of the store and taking additional steps to prepare for construction in the coming months. We continue to closely assess the condition of the site and partner with local officials to secure the area and repair the store as safely as possible.”

The mayor of Barboursville in , Chris Tatum, told WSAZ that this Target holds an important role for the people of the town. Tatum said: “From the time it happened it’s been all hands on deck, and people have just been trying to help out and get the situation resolved. And I know it’s not in the time frame we would like to see it open back up. Their initial time frame was 48 hours. I hate to say it, but acts of God are not covered under what we all think should happen.”
He added that the role of the town’s administration is “the same as everyone else’s” saying this is “getting them [Target] back open as safely as possible for both customers and the people that live over the hill.” Tatum said: “We love having these places here but the most important part is having people to be able to go to their jobs and our citizens to have these places to go to improve their quality of life. And I think they [Target] realise this too.”
One Bournesville resident said Target was part of her “social routine.” Debi Toler told WSAZ: “It’s really sad, I mean, I would meet up here with my daughter and granddaughter and get them cake pops. And we would get Starbucks and look around and go to lunch, and it’s like, our meeting place is not here right now.”
At least three parties early this week received notices telling them to leave their homes, reported. When the first slip occurred Target said: “Target and local officials worked to secure the area and Target’s engineers will continue their work to determine the best course of action to stabilise the property.”
